So after all the build-up surrounding med school, the workload, the exams, etc... I am in the midst of my first round of midterms (yes, we're very late, I realize). Our anatomy scores went up yesterday. I rocked it and am in a position to honor - which I completely wasn't expecting. It feels so good!!! It really helped to counter the daily hum-drum of being beaten over the head with more science. Kind of a gentle reminder that it's all worth it, you know? It also takes the edge off. Up until now, we were constantly reminded that we might have been in the top of our class in undergrad, but everybody in med school was. There was that cloud of anxiety as to where we all fall in the class. I'm sure others have had that nagging voice... "Am I going to be one that drops down in the class?" Anybody eles have a re-assuring experience like this instead of "oh god i just failed my first exam... i'm going to fail out of school...i hate my classes...?"

Anatomy ain't nothin'. Wait until you're toe to toe with your first biochemistry exam, then get back to me.

congrats. and it's not so late; we still haven't ours yet. :scared:

we just got our 4th anatomy exam (abdomen, pelvis, and perineum) back and i failed it by 2 points...but they always tells us that you're fine as long as you're passing...

pfft, i was def not at the top of my undergrad class.... that was the theatre majors' job!!!

and you Rush people are lucky- you get midterms and finals only, right??? across the street, we have section exams almost every week for 10 weeks straight!! and then we have a nice 2 weeks of cumulative finals... right after Thanksgiving "break" !!!

alright, back to freakin biochem which i'm gonna fail on monday..

So true....and then in 2nd year most of the courses (path, pharm, micro) run through the year with only one grade at the end instead of a grade each quarter. I thought I would hate that but it actually works pretty well. Anyway, congrats jennben4.

I don't know. I'm the kind of person that would rather have exams along the way. Your schedule seems kind of hellish though! This seems to be fine, we'll see how it pans out for the rest of the year. Good luck on biochem!

I would like this better than the other schedule if you all didn't have finals. That seems a bit excessive.

I just finished my midterms (here at Stony Brook in NY) too.

Biochem on Thursday - a fricken wreck. I actually scrolled to the top of the exam to make sure that I was given the correct exam for the correct course...I felt good going in - regulation, all the pathways, and solid on disease...I got that test and proceeded to guess on fully 1/2 of the questions. Not good.

Anatomy on Friday - really not bad, but I didn't do as well as I could've/should've. I'll live to fight another day.

Good luck to all those still waiting to take....hell, good luck to everyone. This **** ain't easy.

Well congratulations man...

Do others schools really have it this easy...i'm about to take my fifth exam. Also in our first unit we had an exam every other week and a quiz every week. I'm about 2 points from honors, its the scaling of the scores it kills me everytime.

Do any of you even have scaled scores? Its not a curve just standardizes your score like an MCAT or SAT score so it is in line with previous classes. Grade can go up or down depending on the test...

Easy? Nope. Chicago Medical School is freaking hard.

...And oh crap, now everyone is going to figure out who I am... 😱

Yeah I felt the same way after our first set of exams. I remember taking the gross practice exam and getting like a 40 on it and going into panick mode. But to my surprise I managed to come out with a 90 average - which in my school means absolutely nothing since we're a true P/F school -- which is fine with me in the end. The only problem with doing well on the first set of exams is that it made me way too relaxed and now that we're in our next system (one of the hardest in med school I'm told) I'm already behind because I took too much time off after the first midterms. Definitely enjoy your accomplishment but don't rest on your laurels. I gotta haul ass now to catch up. Luckily -- grades don't count🙂

good work! i agree, they make you brace for a big readjustment amongst your peers in med school. personally i'm still slacking just a little but, well, chillin on top. eventually, when the going gets hard, remember to take care of yourself... let the grades slip a little before your mental or physical health, MS1/2 grades aren't at the top of the list when it comes to securing residency. cheers!

Actually, it's easy to pass. Just sit up in the back row of the auditorium if you have descending seats, wear a cap so no one can see you peering over shoulders, with long hair hanging down your face so no one on either side of you can see you copying answers.

CAUTION: This only works if A) you are sitting behind someone smart B) You are sitting behind someone who actually studied and will ace this test C) You have the exact same test format as the person you are copying off of D) You are a beautiful girl with nice hooters that you can convince the professor to give you extra points in case you come close to passing.

(I've always had that last option work, Body by Victoria with extra push-up padding is worth the $40, trust me on this one ladies)

I feel bad for you guys who have to take multiple classes at once and have exams everyweek. We have an organ based system in which they combine classes into one. So, of course we had anatomy for two months and now we are in MCT, molecules, cells, and tissues. This class is supposed to be one of the hardest, includes embryology, histology, cell, immunolgy, biochemistry and genetics, all crammed into two months. i think it will be ok, as long as I keep up with the material and study EVERYDAY. =) Have yet to get that study habit down.

I HATE embryology!!!! 👎 👎

We have quizzes every week which are supposed to keep us caught up with the material 🙄 .....aren't we supposed to be adults who can take care of ourselves? 😀

our midterms are over too! yay.. however, now i feel as if i'm already studying for finals... awesome friday night for me 😀

tests are poop
congrats to those that did well
those who didnt work harder - put ur bones to the grinder

(i just started anatomy and its just..insane)

I'm stoked that you did well, it definitely takes the edge off. I just hope that you don't voice your post at school, as there are plenty of folks who just plain sucked on that same exam and are still on edge because of it, folks that may not take too kindly to the giddy first year who is voicing how awesome they did. But then again, if you enjoy being loathed by your classmates, go for it! It'll definitely make the next few years even more interesting. My first exam was a reassuring experience, as was my second one. The second one was reassurring more in the way that maybe it's a good idea to study in med school.
