This is one of my top choices due to location. Does anyone have any insight on this school? Any info would help! Thanks.

I was also considering this school, I'm just wary about it not yet being accredited. But it does sound like it's a good program off to a good start!

They are regionally accredited though I'm not sure what that means exactly. I received this from RMUoHP last semester...

Greetings!

PROVO, UTAH (February 28, 2011) - After several years of comprehensive evaluation, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP) has been granted regional accreditation status by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation and the Secretary of the U. S. Department of Education. Regional accreditation applies to the institution as a whole and is a voluntary, non-governmental, process of analytic self reflection and peer review that assures educational quality. RMUoHP has developed an innovative educational model for healthcare professionals and NWCCU simply confirmed that our educational model is exceptional," said, Dr. Larry Banks, Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost.

You can't sit for the PT exam to become licensed to practice unless the school is accredited by CAPTE, which this school isn't yet, so this regional accreditation doesn't really do much for you. RMUoHP should receive accreditation, if all goes well, just before the first class graduates, which is December 2012. So there is some risk here, but nothing like the risk taken by that introductory class, which won't know until they are ready to graduate if they will be able to sit for the exam and practice. Some developing PT programs also arrange "teach-out" agreements with other accredited programs which ensure that you can transfer into those other programs if they do not receive accreditation. You might want to ask them about that.

I am a current student at RMU... We aren't worried about CAPTE accreditation. It will happen next fall before the first class graduates. If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to send me a private message.

Regional accreditation is important as it will allow student to get federal loans, and be eligible for government scholarships. So it is super important. But as others said, CAPTE Accreditation makes it way easier to get a license in a state after you graduate. Not impossible if it does not get CAPTE accredited, but certainly a little more difficult. But almost all schools get CAPTE accredited, and there is probably no expectation that any new school would not. So I would not worry about it at all.

I'm not at this program, but I go to school in the state. There is honestly no concern with the school getting accredited. I've heard good things about the professors/curriculum/etc. The only downfall is no cadaver lab.

Correct. No cadaver lab. Kind of a bummer, but not really that big of a deal.

Anyone else interviewing at Rocky Mt. on Feb. 18th?

As far as the cadaver lab situation: Is there any agreement with nearby schools (BYU or UVU) that allows for access to cadavers?

I don't think there is. Not yet at least.
my correspondence with a Rocky DPT student (PM):

Me: I see you're a current DPT student at Rocky. How do you feel about anatomy being taught with specimens, models, videotapes? I am applying next cycle and I've heard from other PT students that there is no replacement for a cadaver lab - that cadaver learning is far superior for learning anatomy for application in the clinical setting...

Response: Honestly? I was a little bummed that there were no cadavers. That said, I've come to the realization that I didn't really need the cadavers to learn what I needed to learn. Anatomy is beat into your brain with every class you take. I am in my 3rd semester now, and haven't had any ill effects of not learning on cadavers.

Anatomy is only 5 credits out of the 130 or so total credits, so while it was a bummer, it isn't a deal breaker. I know others have different opinions, but that's where I am at! Any other questions, let me know.

Just heard back from RMUOHP this morning! - Accepted! I was somewhat skeptical of the school before interviewing, but ended up liking it more than anywhere else I interviewed. The faculty is awesome and the atmosphere is unbeatable.

Yeah, I got an acceptance email yesterday. I'm still waiting to hear back from some Cali schools. And maybe waiting 1 more week to see if I get off the waitlist at Regis (their deposits are due tomorrow), but I'm 90% sure I'll be attending RMU! I was impressed with the school as well. And I love Utah! 😀

Well congrats!! Do you mind sharing your GRE scores? RMU is my first choice, and I have a really good GPA (3.9) but not so impressive GRE scores (153V and 152Q) I can't find on their website what the average score is.

I'm interested in applying to this program because it has many strengths. Although I don't expect to have much free time outside of studying I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the location? What night life like? What about outdoor/hiking culture?
