Hello! I just got Rocky Vista supplemental applications and the questions are a bit odd compared to the other ones I have done.

3) Why do you want to become an Osteopathic Physician?
Is this asking what life experiences I have had which has lead me to this profession? Such as family, friends or shadowing a doctor?

4) Why do you wish to attend RVUCOM's Colorado Campus?

This one is pretty straight forward, do research and just explain why I would want to go there

5) What unique characteristics, abilities, or skills will you bring to RVUCOM and the Osteopathic Profession?

Again I've done questions like this before BUT the key difference is unique. I'm assuming the abilities it is asking for is something I can use in the field. The abilities I can think of(Such as being caring, patient and being able to communicate) is something many candidates have. Am I suppose to explain how I can use it in a way that is unique? Or should I go a different route? The one thing I think is drastically difference is I used to be a computer engineer and have a minor in it. Because of this, I was taught to have a certain mindset that funny enough can be used very well in osteopathic medicine. Should I go this route? Or talk about the qualities mentioned before?

Any advice would be helpful!

For number 5: you can't just say "I'm good with people, so i can contribute my kindness" type stuff. You're gonna have to provide a good example from your life that made you acquire this characteristic and explain how it helped you develop this quality.

This will be good because it will add beef to your essay and use up words.

For #5, I talked about my hobby of custom PC building. It was an interesting way to talk about diagnosis in a different setting. I would say to most definitely talk about a skill you picked up in computer engineering.

It really is just a straight forward question. It doesn't have to be very intricate, but a simply answer as to WHY.

My best buddy and I used to build PCs in middle school and he is now a resident DO. He wrote about PC building in his app and got into CCOM, so I guess it works.

hey could you possibly take a look at what I wrote to "why I want to be an osteopathic physician" and let me know if answers the question properly? I'm wondering because you are a med student and have an idea of what they are looking for.

About question 3: Why are you applying to any DO school? I would make it clear that you understand basic and value basic osteopathic concepts.

They are outline on page 9 of this booklet: http://www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/cib/bgom.pdf?sfvrsn=6

About question 5: What characteristics or special skills do you have that will be an asset to the school and the profession? Someone who has a degree in bioinformatics could help the school with research analysis. Someone with experience in public health could help the school and profession with outreach programs.
