Rolling applications-do PD's recheck files as they're completed?

Assuming you apply September 1 like everyone else, but your step II and maybe a few LOR's aren't back yet. Will PD's look at incomplete files? Do they get notified when you submit all that? Is September 1 really a cruicial date, or is like 9/15 OK. General Surgery btw.

Basically I have a slightly below average Step I, am counting on LOR's and Step II to make up for it. Would my general strategy be to submit a completed application so that I don't get thrown in the trash based on a 21x Step I?

Every time we download applications, the ERAS Post Office generates a list of the new documents sorted by applicant name. So...yes, we keep checking, and our view of each applicant summary page indicates exactly which documents have been downloaded for that person and which documents are still outstanding.

Submitting in mid September won't put you at a disadvantage if you decide to wait.

Agreed with mcl. We continue to look at things as they come in. If a program decides not to review applications with less than 3 letters or no step 2, then your application will simply sit there until the new information arrives. Once it does, it will be viewable for review by the PD. (Each program can decide what factors, if any, it wants to use to filter applications for review).

A similar question but put different way in my context. I have my ECFMG certificate and expect to get my LOR by August end. I will be giving Step 3 on 12 Sep and expect to get result by 29th Sep (3rd Wednesday).

So which is best option (to maximize number of calls) to take for me -

1. Apply on Sep 1 and update my USMLE transcript on Sep 30th. (Keeping this as default for now)

2. Apply on Sep 30th itself with USMLE Step 3 Score. (In this option, I am worried that I may not get calls at all (quite late application) , as interview spots in many programs may already get filled)

Special request to aProgDirector and other PD to please advice.

If you already have your ECFMG cert, nobody will care all that much about your Step 3 score (unless it's disparate from your I/II scores). Apply early and add Step 3 when it comes in.
