My friend spent time at Hagyard. I don't know specifics but I know she loved it, I didn't hear any complaints/critiques of the place.

Med, surgery, or ambulatory? Interested in an internship? Obviously both are huge, well-known practices with a booming caseload. Their internships aren't structured exactly the same though, so that would matter to your externship choice if that's the route you're pursuing. If you're not pursuing an internship...you may have more hands-on opportunities at an externship that's not in the big boys club.

I am more interested in medicine. Do you have experience or know someone that has experience at either place? I have heard that you don't get much hands on experience at either. Do you think one is better for medicine over the other? I really appreciate the input!

Yes, I have experience at both. I’d recommend you get on the AAEP avenues site and review the post-grad programs before getting into the nitty-gritty of who prefers what externship. As I said, they’re structured very differently...Rood & Riddle has a hospital internship that rotated through med, surgery, and anesthesia. Hagyard has a medicine fellowship. Those differences alone will likely guide you towards one or the other based on your post-grad goals.
