hey guys, I need some advice on the roommate situation for first year. Has anyone ever roomed with someone in your D1 class that you didn't know before hand? How did it turn out and would you recommend living alone? It just seems a bit much to be living with someone and seeing them all day in class, and if you guys don't get along then it could be a nightmare. On the other hand this is my first time living alone and I'm slightly worried about being lonely....lol...

i caution you with getting a stranger as a roommate, even if they're a classmate. It might turn out well but not so was the case with my brother and his classmate. It got bad enough that they had to agree to end the lease early. You will have to deal with more than enough stress from school.

perhaps by a pet to keep you company? if you don't get along w/ it , you could always boot it out on to the street

Just kidding.

my room mates are in my class and I met them on Fb. I think it worked out great.

obviously call them up and see how the personalities match but I definitely think I would be a little lonely without room mates since i study by myself. If you study in groups prob wont matter but if you study by yourself then its nice to have room mates or else you dont see people for the week before the exam haha.

i lived with roomsmates and never had an issue. But I roomed with students who werent in the dental school, i looked for other graduates students to room with, so when i was in dental school, i had engineering roommates. I too had concern about rooming with another dental student bc if it didnt work out then im stuck seeing them at school.

I never had issues with graduate school roommates. The majprity of the time, none of us were ever at the house except to sleep, I was always studying or working on projects and they were doing their research in their labs.

I would suggest if you do go with roommates, look for grad students that arent in dental school, and avoid undergrads. Grad students for the most part are more mature.

There are quite a few pairs of people who roomed up without knowing each other before dental school. About 1/2 the people are moving out on their own for D2 year, and the other half are satisfied with their current living situation. Then there are more people who were alone are now pairing up with someone they think will work out.

Just a big IF in there. It depends on if you are going to be a gunner and study 100% of the time, a slacker and party until the day of the exam, or somewhere in between.
