Ross or RVC????

RVC. AVMA accredited versus not, Federal Loans versus private, London versus 3rd world island.

RVC hands down.

I guess the #1 reason is due to RVC being accredited with the US. Meaning that ur DVM license is good for US, Europe, South Africa, and Australia. You don't have to take the exam to practice in the US since RVC is equivalent to for example, graduating from UF and so all you need to do is get ur state permit.

Ross is a DeVry system and is not under AVMA qualifications. You spend 3 years at Ross and your last year somewhere in the States. Speaking to some students currently at Ross, they didn't like how the program works. Everything is really run down and you don't get as much experience working with animals as you do back in the States/UK. I know some Ross students transferred to St. George.

The good thing about Ross is that I believe its much cheaper than RVC. You are relatively closer to the States compared to crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

However, it really all comes down to getting a job. My current vet is a graduate of Ross and she opened up her clinic at Miami Beach so she is faring pretty well after graduation. The big problem is during competition on a really nice job. For example, a Ross graduate and a Colorado graduate both applied for the same job opening. The Colorado graduate got the job for w/e reason but also because Colorado is part of AVMA and is more prestigious compared to Ross.

Although this isn't always the case, you can get lucky in getting that perfect job being a Ross graduate.

RVC is just as prestigious as Colorado and is in the top 100-200 in the world.

As an added bonus, how many Americans can say they studied abroad??

Hope this helps and just to avoid flames from Ross students, everything here is in my opinion.

I'd go to RVC, personally.

AVMA accredited is the big issue here. That and rumors that it's difficult to get internships from the international schools that aren't accredited. Plus, it'd be WAY cooler to have the initials RVC gives you after your name! I don't know what it is, but I know the word "Royal" is in it!

Plus it's London. When you're in the UK, it's easy to travel around Europe (especially coming from the UK). But really, the schools in the UK that are AVMA accredited, are actually accredited three times (AVMA, EAEVE (European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education), and RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons)). They're at least comparable (or better) than the US schools because they have to be accredited by more than 1 association.

When you submit the FAFSA, RVC should be an option. I know Edinburgh, Glasgow, Massey, and Dublin are options. Loans shouldn't be an issue with RVC.

RVC, I wouldn't even give it a second thought if it were my choice. RVC is a great school and is AVMA accredited, Ross is not accredited and they've been having a rocky time lately with regards to negative publicity (though I have no idea how much is true, so I'm not judging, just pointing it out).

And like david594 said, RVC would be better financially and is a lot less dangerous than living at Ross.

I know a couple of young vets from Ross who had just graduated and told me about how they loved it there, and were tempted to stay down there after graduation...I think that the danger there is amped up. They told me if I applied I should talk to them and they would tell me what places to avoid, what to do, etc., but they never experienced any problems. They loved the school, the environment, and the island.

I know that Ross is working on the accrediation process right now. If you wanted to practice in OH, you actually wouldn't have to take the additional test that is required.

I would pick RVC first due to the AVMA accreditation, but if Ross is significantly cheaper, go with Ross...going there is already VERY VERY expensive. I honestly think that wherever you go, you will get a great education, and enjoy your time there. Have fun! :luck:

Thanks guys these are all great feedbacks. I'm looking into both school in depth. Though i think i am inclining more to RVC.

RVC. For the same reasons everyone else said. And because London is beyond awesome.

The education at Ross is the same as anywhere else - you'll get out of it what you put into it. I will say accreditation is a huge draw for RVC, not to mention the fact that you'll be living in LONDON 🙂 I'd give a body part to have the opportunity to live overseas.

The only bad thing I would say about Ross' accreditation is that its taking them forever. I can recall being in my undergrad - around 7 years ago - and hearing them say "Oh yeah, by the time you've graduated we'll be accredited". And they've said that pretty much every year since. They're STILL saying it.

I don't think the program is bad, I think you will get a very good quality education and I think the opportunities are out there...just be forewarned they likely will NOT be accredited by the time you graduate if that's the route you choose to follow.

Another vote for RVC. I'm definitely up for living in London and going to an AVMA accredited school.

RVC hands down. 😍

London is an amaaaazing city and I know some of the professors there and they are amazing as well.

If my fiance was willing to move to england I would have totally loved to have gone to RVC possibly over many american schools.
