Rotation site => Residency

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It is good to do a rotation at a site where you want to get a residency. Well, assuming you do well in that rotation 😉

That way they know what you are like to work with, what you do best and so on. Is it a guarentee you will or will not get a residency there.. no, not really, but it can help.

How important is it to rotate at a hospital you want to do residency at?

A large percentage of AOA residencies will give EXTREME preference to those who rotate at their program. It is helpful to rotate at an ACGME residency, but not as important as for AOA residencies.

I have spoken to an AOA residency director who will not even interview applicants who have not rotated at their program.

Obviously you can't rotate everywhere you are applying, so rotate at your top 3 choices or so.

It may be helpful to both the hospital and you. It may give you a better chance at matching at the program if you do really well. It gives the hospital a better feel if you would be compatible with the program.
