Rotations and SF Match

You should ideally have your CAS in by early August. You don't want to jeopardize your application by something so simple as submitting early. You can update programs separately about your clerkship scores.

Thank you for the reply. So after further reading and your reply, it sounds like not having a core rotation grade on my transcript at submission is not a big deal. Do you know whether I would need to update programs after it has been released or if they would simply find out via the MSPE? Thanks again.

On another note, if you take step 2CK and score gets released in early September and updated on CAS, is that early enough to be considered for interview invites?

Maybe others can chime in... but if you have your medicine and surgery done then I think it's better to have your app in early rather than wait for some tertiary core clerkship score. What is the alternative? As you say, medicine and surgery is the most important. Ideally you'd want all your cores done. But you also don't want to delay the application.

Programs tend to send out invites from late September to late November. So you should be fine. I would just politely email the PCs when your score becomes available so that they can make a note of it.

Hi Q - I'm a program coordinator, and I have two comments. 1) In general, we (programs) aren't even given access to the applications until mid-August. I think SF Match is trying to work on speeding up the timeline of when they release to us, but in the last several years it's been around August 15-18 at the earliest. 2) I would recommend you send your application by mid August or certainly before Sept 1 (some programs have early deadlines) even without the one core grade on your transcripts. You can always submit an updated transcript (we get those "supplemental document" emails from SF Match all the time). It should be reflected on your MSPE also, of course, but those are not released to programs until the first week of October, and by that time many programs have been making decisions on who to invite - some have even held early interview days already. Good luck!
