I do not have a DO letter of rec.

Residence: CA. Asian. Male.
GPA: 2.98 cGPA with 2.73 sGPA in UG w/ rising trend 3.53 sGPA and 3.89 AO GPA in my senior year. 3.45 cGPA and 3.43 sGPA in the Georgetown SMP.
MCAT: 518 (131/127/130/130). 515 (128/127/129/131). 518 is the most recent.
Research/ECs/etc:

• ~ 4050 hours of wet lab work over 4 labs
• 400 hours of clinical experience - working in hospitals. ED scribe for 275 of these hours. I've been working as a scribe part-time while researching as my full-time job so I'm working M-S.
• 1 co-first author publication and 2 fourth author publications. All in preparation.
• Shadowing: 120 hours in neurology
• 100 hours as coordinator of Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness club
• Other:
  • Worked as a lifeguard and bakery clerk during undergrad (~150 hours)
  • Captain of IM basketball team during college (~50 hours)
  • Mentor in a tutoring program at UC Berkeley (~50 hours)
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology journalist for one year (~125 hours), receiving scholarship to attend an annual conference (~70 hours)
  • Public health work for under-served Asian Americans (~65 hours)
• 6 letters of rec: one from Chairman of Neurology at Stanford SOM (lab work), one from Clinical Research coordinator for Neurology Health Center at Stanford (shadowing), one from Georgetown (SMP), one from scribing, one from both a science and humanities (with lots of writing) professor each
• I have an IA for Academic probation, which I've drafted a good explanation for in my application.

You're fine for DO, including mine, but for MD, maybe these:

Can you explain what you mean in the first line? Does that mean I have a low GPA for a reinventor? I really did try in the SMP. One of my mentors advised me that my letters of rec will matter a lot this year. What do you make of that?

Maybe Goro will back me up on this, but usually those doing SMP/postbacs with 3.50+ GPA's within the PB/Grad curriculum seem to be more desirable in early rounds of consideration, even though you probably would still do pretty well in medical school (wherever you go).

Based upon feedback from SDNers who have successfully reinvented themselves, MD schools want to see a GPA of 3.7 or higher, DO schools are okay with probably a 3.5 or higher

Alright thanks guys. I’m going to modify my school list a bit based on what Goro said and then just hope for the best. I’m hoping for an MD school to keep my doors open but we’ll just have to see. My concern, like one of my mentors mentioned, is that oftentimes DO schools are located further away from research hubs so my plans are somewhat limited there.
