I have been lucky enough to have accepted to KCU-COM Kansas City and have received II's from UIW, AT-Still, Marian and Rowan. I have cancelled my II's to AT-Still and Marian however, I am debating on whether or not I should attend my Rowan SOM Interview.

My concern is that it did not seem as if KCU had many opportunities for research. Rowan, on the other hand, seems to have plenty. With the DO/MD residency merger occurring in 2020, I am not sure if this will negatively affect me. I am not *yet* intending on matching into a competitive residency. This may obviously change when rotations begin. However, the tuition at KCU is way cheaper (44k vs ~63k). Anyone have any insight/advice or pros/cons?

Edit: I eventually want to end up practicing in Texas.

I was recently accepted to RowanSOM. My interview there was great. The staff was friendly and the students seemed happy (I also know 2 that love it there). They made it clear there is a lot of research available especially CARES (child abuse) and NJISA (aging related). I really enjoyed the school when I went to visit. I think they're generally well respected in the area - but that is the thing - I want to practice in Southern NJ close to where the school is. So, it might be worth checking out if you have the time/money.

Both are really strong programs, both are top DO programs actually. You can't go wrong with either. RowanSOM has a really collaborative and cooperative community. The student body is not competitive and everyone helps each other out. Many medical schools have a competitive student body which was one of the reasons why RowanSOM was my top choice and why I am attending next fall. RowanSOM OOS is very expensive, but if you live in NJ then you should definitely choose Rowan instead of KCU. Either school you can't really go wrong, as both are very well respected and very established medical schools.

Both programs are rated high with excellent reputations. I don't know if you had your Rowan interview by now or not but would choose ROWAN if I had the choice between the two programs and for the following reasons:

ROWAN has state university resources.
Has its own teaching hospital ON CAMPUS.
In-house residencies in competitive specialties.
Legitimate research and NIH funding. (Rowan is one of the top DO programs in the country receiving research and grant $'s)

I have been fortunate this cycle to have received several acceptances and choosing Rowan for some of the reasons I mentioned. Great news is, it only takes one acceptance to make your dream come true, so if fortunate to receive additional interview invitations, having options makes it even better. Best of luck!!
