I was wondering if anyone had experiences in rural dentistry that they'd like to share. Is there anyone out there hoping to work with rural populations?
I'd like to go to a rurual community. I like small towns--the people, the politics, and the pace. Where? Not sure. It'll depend on what practice opportunities are available when graduation nears.
Rural practioners often provide a broader scope of services because many patients don't have access to specialists. As a general dentist wannabe, I'm interested in many different areas. The general dentist I worked with provided services from periodontal surgeries to orthodontics to placing implants. I'd like to run a similar practice.
I've checked out your blogs. You have beautiful children! My children are about the same age as yours. I'll be applying to d-school this next cycle. Do you find that as a dental student that you have enough quality time with your children and your wife?
This first year is tough. Class 50 hours a week, with labs on top of that. I don't see them as much as I want, but I see them a lot. After the upcoming quarter, I won't be nearly as busy. And, 2nd year is supposed to be fantastic compared to 1st year.
