Does anyone know anything or have experience with one of these programs? Know at what point you sign-up? Are you assigned to an area or can you choose between locations?

I am very interested in rural family practice and also afraid of the debt my family ( I have a family of 5) will have after Medical school.

Please let me know if you have any info.

Thank you very much for your help!

I would suggest looking into the National Health Services Scholarship through the government's Bureau of Health and Human Services.

Dan-
Check with your state department of public health. I know in Illinois there are repayment programs through the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Also, if you are applying to medical school or are already in medical school, some states have scholarship programs if you make a commitment to practice primary care in a rural area. In Illinois, this is also through the department of public health. I was looking at these programs, but don't know if I want to commit to PC yet. Good luck!
