bump..any thoughts on pepole's experience

Hey.. I went to Rush during the first week of December, so I can offer some input, but I'm not sure what you guys are looking for exactly. I'll just put basic info and you can always msg me later for more details.

The day starts at 730am with bfast and 745-9 the PD, chair of medicine and chief's do their little spiel about why rush, what to consider when u're ranking later, and why chicago is so awesome. We actually didn't have the PD do his thing the morning I interviewed b/c he was stuck in some meeting but we had the associate PD instead. Talk was really long winded b/c he sat there and just talked for like 45 min straight.

Morning report was right after at lke 910-950 and was led by a sub-specialist. It was just an overnight admission and wasn't very impressive, just a regular MR...

There was a decent amt of us interviewing, maybe 30-35 (don't quote me on that) so they split us up afterwards and from 10-12, we were either interviewing, touring the facilities, or sitting down to have an informal Q&A with the chiefs. The facilities were average, the chiefs were really nice, and we had 2 faculty interviews, both of which were fairly laid back.

Lunch was with residents from 10-12 and there was a great turnout, lots of residents to talk to. I think just around me there were 3 residents. Everyone was friendly and willing to answer questions. They ended with a slideshow 1-130 pm.

Overall, I think it was a nice program but very mid-tier. They have a strong emphasis on your clinical experience and even though they do say you can find research, it won't necessarily be the best place for this. I found some residents that went outside Rush to do research. If you want to stay in chicago in similar tier with a place that emphasizes research, I'd say definitely look at UIC. Also, I'm leaning toward GI and their GI match is unimpressive.

Other random things I picked up: training is at Stoger, Skokie and RUMC with no VA experience, +EMR for past 2 years and just changed outpatient clinics over to same (EPIC), very friendly and not malignant, 80% go into fellowship, great experience in ICU/CCU b/c no fellows present at night so you're really running the show, moonlighting available for R2 and R3, and 34 categoricals per year.

Anyway i hope that helped. let me know if u have any other qs.

Did you send a thank you email to the PD afterwards? If so did he email you back stating anything about whether or not he thinks you would be a good fit?

No starting isolated threads about single program interviews.

We'll have our mod start an "interview thread".
