I would go with Rutgers. Did you see that match list?? That was pretty impressive (it actually looked better than BU's) and really goes to show that you can go anywhere out of Rutgers. I also wouldn't worry too much about the research funding numbers - you don't need to go to the school with the most research funding - you just need one funded PI to work with.

As a tip from what advisors have told me - when looking at match lists you want to see people matching into competitive specialities just to show it is possible but really you want to look at the internal medicine matches because that is one of the most common and so it gives a better idea of where people are going.

Is RWJ that close to NYC? Close enough to make the decision worthwhile?

An hour? Ya I think an hour is doable as long as both you and your SO are into the relationship. You could go there every other weekend and they could come to you every other weekend or so (or every two weeks). I know people doing that

1 hr to ny penn station + 15-45 minutes to anywhere else in the city via MTA. whether its “worthwhile” is a distinction only you can determine

It's about 45 - 60 minutes away by train! Depending on the time of day, you could also take an express train that might shorten the trip too (b/c the train doesn't stop at all of the local stops between New Brunswick and the airport)

If I tell you to pick BU its only bcos I'm currently on the high priority waitlist for RWJ. Lol. Just wanted to add what I remember for interview day about guaranteed opportunities for research at RWJ, and if you seek out your own faculty and research idea then there is option for stipend to research over the summer. Just wanted to throw that into the mix.

when will premeds realize that match lists do not matter. Preform well and you will get the specialty you want.
