I haven't seen new thread for this fall yet so here's one. I gained acceptance to RVU MSBS and I'm very excited. I just want to know if any past or current MSBS students can tell me more about their experiences in this program as well as inquire about the program's linkage to RVUCOM. I'm aware of the negative reviews the program had during its first year but I'm optimistic as more recent students seem to like the program.

Congrats on your acceptance! I also have been accepted to RVU MSBS. I was wondering if anyone has started a Facebook page for accepted students yet? Or is interested in one?

Thank you! And congrats to you as well! I haven’t looked into FB (not really active on there) but I will 🙂

Will you be pursuing this program? Torn between this and ACHE MSB but I’ve already made my deposit to RVU as I just interviewed with Arkansas and still waiting for their decision.

Yes I decided on RVU. I received acceptances here and also VCOM/Bluefield and Arkansas. But ultimately I felt like RVU was the best fit for me.

Great! The main reason why I'm going back and forth between here and Arkansas is ultimately the Tuition. But curriculum wise and along with other factors, I feel like I'm more drawn to RVU. I'm speaking with a future classmate then 🙂

Accepted to RVU MSBS program as well. Does anybody know if there is an acceptance based off of good performance? I read on another post that above a 3.6 GPA during the first semester equated to an acceptance. I was accepted to this program as well as Midwestern AZ MABS. I am trying to decide which program to go with.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I talked with the Program Director. They do have Tier systems. Tier 1 is for students who have a 3.6 GPA during the Fall semester. They have guaranteed acceptance as long as the student keeps at least a 3.6 GPA until the end of the Spring semester as well. Tier 2 is for students who had below 3.6 GPA during the Fall semester but was able to bring it up to at least 3.6 after the Spring semester. These students will have guaranteed acceptance as well if there are still seats open. They will be placed at the top of the waitlist. If no seats open, these students will have guaranteed spot for the next school year. Lastly, Tier 3 is for students who get below 3.6 GPA but at least a 3.3 at the end of the Spring semester. These students will receive a guaranteed interview for the next school year/application cycle. I hope this information helps. Congratulations on your acceptance at Midwestern AZ MABS, as well. That is a good program. I am also trying to decide between RVU and VCOM, but I'm leaning towards RVU.

I tried searching a Facebook page for accepted students, but I did not find one. I am also not very active on Facebook. I think it would be cool to have one though.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the class schedule will be like?

Go on portal and on the lower left side of screen under quick links, there is a "my courses" drop down menu with the six courses for first semester.

Can I use the rec letters that were intended for med school as rec letters for MSBS? (Georgetown is okay with it so I was not sure if RVU is as well)

Hello! Just wanted to check in to see how the semester went for those who decided to attend? I am considering RVU among a few others, so just wanted to hear what some pros/cons of the program were. Thanks!

We have finished our first semester and its crazy how fast it went by. I will say this program is definitely the most academically rigorous program I have ever done. With that being said I am incredibly happy with my decision to attend RVU. Even though it is a challenging program, there are so many resources available to ensure your success you just have to be willing to put in the work. The professors, tutors, classmates, etc. are incredibly helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to message me 🙂

Just applied to this program last week. Non-traditional underdog here. Hopefully I get some love from this school!

Just recently accepted into the RVU MSBS program for Fall 2020. I was wondering if anyone can share what a typical week would be like for this program (class schedule, study, sleep, free time, etc..), what their experience has been like so far, and any advice that you would give future MSBS students. Thanks so much!

Congratulations on your acceptance! I will try to answer your questions the best I can and if you have any more please feel free to ask. As far as class schedule we have mandatory classes M-Th and the hours vary from day to day. Classes usually start around 9 or 10am sometimes earlier and classes some days end at 12pm while others we go till 5pm. As far as studying goes we all study a lot including on the weekends. With that being said I value my sleep very much and have always felt that I can think better with more sleep so I try not to sacrifice it for studying. However, I have several friends who like to stay up really late studying so that is just personal preference. It's all about figuring out how to study effectively. You don't have an abundance of free time but many of us still found time to have fun (obviously this was before social distancing). Many classmates went skiing on the weekends, traveled out of state, went out downtown, went to games, etc. It's definitely not something you should be doing every weekend but most people would do something fun after exams.

As far as my experience so far I would say it has been very positive. The professors are fantastic and they really work hard to set you up for success in this program and help you accomplish your goals. My advice would be to not try and tackle this program alone I think its important to find classmates that you can study with and reach out to professors and tutors when you need help.

Congratulations again on your acceptance you are one step closer to your goals!

Thank you so much for responding and answering all my questions. This is very informative and I appreciate your advice as well. I'm glad to hear from someone that your experience has been very positive. I've read a bunch about how challenging this program can be but it seems like everyone sees the sliver lining!

It is definitely a very challenging program, however, a majority of those in the program get accepted into medical school (last year's class was I think 95%) and we have been told many of them are honoring in their classes. It's worth the hard work and your professors do really support you and want to see you succeed.

Is it too late to apply here and have a shot for this upcoming class? I think I am fairly competitive with my 516 MCAT. I am applying late because I really thought I would get into a DO school, but obviously I was wrong.

I definitely don't think it is too late to apply here. The application doesn't close till July. Several people in our current class applied in the spring and still got accepted. You can always reach out to the program and ask if it is full and if they have a wait list.

How hard is it to get straight A's. I am what you would call a gifted student, but I assume most people in the program are.
This is an incredibly challenging program and straight A's would be really hard I don't think anyone this fall had straight A's. I am not saying its impossible and plenty of people get A's in individual classes. It all depends on the individuals strengths there are classes that I do not have to study that hard to get grades I am happy with and then their are classes that I spend most of my time studying to even get a decent grade. Most people in this program spend most of their days either in class or studying including weekends.

Hey guys! In the PostBacCas portal system there is a generic Personal Statement section and I’m a little hesitant on what to submit. I am applying to RVU as well as two other programs and all three will see this same statement since it’s part of the generic application. Could anyone give me insight on what to do about this? I already wrote my essay questions, so I’m essentially ready to hit submit. Thank you!

Did you previously apply under AMCAS or AACOMAS? If so, I would just use your previous personal statement and tweak it a bit if you'd like, otherwise, you would need to find the best approach to writing a personal statement that would appeal to these programs.

I found out yesterday that I was accepted! I thought I was already rejected and have since put a deposit down for a seat in Temple's ACHS post-bacc. I have a call lined up for Monday to talk to someone from admissions at RVU, so I might change my mind..... I really like the fact that we take courses very similar to OMS1s here. Not quite sure what I am going to do yet. Congrats to everyone who has also received an acceptance!

Hey everyone! I was recently accepted for the 2021-22 MSBS program. I was wondering if there were any tips you could offer in how to prepare before classes began? Are books necessary? I'm also looking for recommendations on places to live. Tysm!

Does anyone know if this is a linkage program?
Also for those who got accepted what were your stats

95% of the class got into RVU?
