Hey everybody,
Just got the call to be off of CCOM's waitlist, however, I am already accepted to RVU's CO program which also seems great. Pretty torn and now all the decisions are running through my mind since I had pretty much already planned out my move (haven't set a lease or reserved anything yet though). Was looking for some input from others:
Both have:
-Great residency placements
-Great board scores
-Crazy high cost of living and tuition
RVU Pros:
-The area seems great, especially with the hiking and outdoors (I myself am super into winter sports, SO into hiking)
-A couple friends within 20 minute drive
-Less expensive school in regards to tuition (but not by much)
-Residency placement seems to be variable in location and specialty
RVU Cons:
-skepticism regarding the new campus (unsure if will affect rotations and/or resources shared)
-skepticism regarding the parent company (the for profit aspect hasnt really impacted as far as I can tell)
-rotations for clinical years seem varied and far spread
-No family in the area for either me or my SO
CCOM Pros:
-only 4 hour drive from family and other friends, some friends in Chicago as well
-Chicago seems kind of cool
-affiliated free clinic for early students, and closer/more establish rotations at larger hospitals
-more research opportunities potentially
- Less concern/hearsay about for profit and/or other campuses
CCOM Cons:
-one of the highest tuitions out there
-overall, IL doesn't seem as interesting
-residency placement seems very focal to remaining in the Chicago area and maybe a tiny bit less variety
-At the interview, the student interviewer mentioned the way they do their learning blocks is a bit odd to transition to step/comlex practice and review. (though it sounds great for true application of medicine)
Thoughts?
