Hey everyone-
This morning I woke up to kind of a sad letter, but I think I know the reasoning. I got a letter from RVU saying I don't meet their academic requirements at this time. I have a 3.46 sGPA and a 3.56cGPA but my MCAT scores haven't posted yet so I am thinking that it is because my file is incomplete at this moment. What do you think?
It says I can send updates to AACOMAS and I will be reconsidered...
I received 4 secondaries yesterday, CCOM, AZCOM, SOMA, and Nova...

This can't be based on just your GPAs...they're very solid. Although this worries me because we're quite similar and I really want to apply here (3.5 sgpa/3.3 cgpa/3.8 postbacc)

Is your MCAT score in yet? I also went to UC Berkeley, I don't know if they look at that kind of stuff too. I have some really solid EC's. but I doubt that anyone is looking at those at this time in the process.

I'm just hoping the only reason I got that letter is because they don't have my MCAT scores yet. My scores should be in by Aug 2nd hopefully, and I will release them to AACOMAS. On my practice tests I was consistently scoring 32-34ish, so I am hoping I fall in that range on the actual test

My MCAT score isn't in until the 22nd (next week). I plan on applying the 22nd, so I should have some feedback for you by the time your MCAT is in.

You need to wait till your MCAT is posted. They won't reject you without a full application.

Yup everything is verified. Applied to Western and received a secondary from them. Just witing for MCAT to apply to the rest.

I'm sure you looked into this before applying, but have you taken Biochemistry? I know RVU is one of the schools that requires it, as well as 4 hours of additional Biology.

Yeah, I am a molecular and cell biology major so I've taken tons of biology stuff. I have taken biochem too...just finished actually, got an A- (sad about that, but whatever)!

I went to UC Berkeley too and have a lower GPA and science GPA than you. 28 MCAT. I got a secondary. Not having a complete file has to be the reason that you got denied. There is no other way with your great GPA. Contact admissions ASAP it'll be cool my fellow bear.

Im not sure if you took any of your pre-reqs at a CC, OP. I remember someone on this forum saying that RVU doesn't like you taking your pre-reqs from a CC, but i don't know how true this is. I remember calling and telling them that i took a pre-req at a CC and if it was ok, they told me if it was the only pre-req i took at a CC and got an A in it, if so then i would be fine. Can someone else chime in on this and confirm?

I'm guessing they just want your file to be complete. I got a secondary from them last year with a ~3.75 GPA when my MCAT was 25 (pending planned retake).

I got a rejection as well. I am planning on calling Monday just to find out what minimum requirement I didn't meet incase I have to reapply next year.

No, he says his letter states he doesn't meet their requirements currently, the same as my letter. He assumes this is because of not having an MCAT score. Which may be correct. If his letter was anything like mine (likely given it sounds like they were sent near the same time) it comes off as a provisional rejection. I have copied the pertinent part of my email below.

"Currently you do not meet the minimum requirements necessary to move forward in our admissions process. However, if during this admission cycle, you have updated information you would like us to consider (transcripts or MCAT scores), please send them to AACOMAS and request an updated profile. If the revised information falls within our minimum standards, you will be notified that your file has been reactivated and a supplemental application will be sent to you."

This in my opinion is a provisional rejection, hence why I will be calling Monday to try and find out what minimum requirement I am not meeting. Hopefully for both OP and myself submitting updated transcripts and MCAT scores will put us back in the running.

I definitely will. Trust me I am hoping this is just a case of having to send them an updated transcript. But honestly the tone of the email leans heavily towards "we aren't interested".

I'm getting the vibe it's a generic email sent out to all the people who haven't submitted their ****.

Which seems weird to me since the only prereq I dont have completed is a single english course. Which I am doing right now and I included in my future course work. Really hope I didn't overlook a requirement.

That letter is auto generated because your MCAT isn't in. When it is you'll probably get a secondary prompt right away. Don't worry... their cutoffs are ~3.25...

For the record I received the same email when I applied in 2011 on June 1st and my MCAT didn't hit until June 23rd. As soon as it was in, I got a secondary. Seriously, be calm...

Yeah so I called them and they told me it was because of the MCAT and that was the only reason. As soon as I submit my score, they said they will open up my application again and process it.

As far as taking prereqs at a CC, I highly doubt that they would frown on that. It would limit an entire transfer population from getting into their school. That sounds highly unlikely...I took most of my prereqs at CC and got A's in all if them. As long as your MCAT score reflects your knowledge, I doubt there is any problem at all

If your MCAT is less than a 29/30, CC credits will be frowned upon, sorry. I have a friend who went to Johnson and Wales (4yr culinary school), and they told her that her biochem was unacceptable because it was from a cooking school, and they wanted her to have more science classes from a 4yr university. RVU is very science heavy. If 100% of your science classes are from a CC, your application will be less competitive than someone who took them from a 4 year university. RVU had ~4000-4500 applications last year for ~150 spots, they have an average MCAT of ~28, and an average GPA ~3.5-3.75, they can be picky. People want to be in CO, people want to go to RVU, every incoming class has better stats than the one before it, so while you *think* they should take them, it doesn't mean they will. Well that would make sense if you have a low MCAT score, because that would show that you didn't really learn the material. I also didn't attend a culinary school...

I didn't say that, but her biochem was from a 4 year university and they still didn't take it. Since you don't currently have an MCAT score (unless it came in today), you can't really be assured that your score is going to be above their average. Also, FWIW, when she applied, her MCAT score was the same as the average. Best of luck
