I realize this comparison has been made a few hundred times, but I wanted to get an updated opinion on these schools to help me decide.

RVUCOM

Pros
Great board scores, both COMLEX and USMLE
Lecture not mandatory
Dress code not mandatory
Curriculum seems rigorous, but good for preparing for boards
Tracks
Location - Denver/Parker CO is pretty nice

Cons
Location - cold af
Tuition is higher, cost of living higher
Unsure about rotation sites
Need to uproot everything
Not connected to big university

CUSOM

Pros
Great board scores, both COMLEX and USMLE
Near homeish
Facilities are new
Lower tuition than RVUCOM, Low cost of living
Connected to big undergrad university with other grad schools

Cons
Location - rural af
Mandatory lecture
Mandatory dress code
Rotation sites can be hit or miss
Not as established

The main thing I am concerned about is the difference in tuition. I was just wondering if people thought it was worth the 15k per year difference to go to RVUCOM compared to CUSOM. Thanks!

I'm in a similar predicament to you but I was accepted to RVU-Utah. I think it comes down to what you want to specialize in. Obviously it may be difficult to know at this point, but if you have even the slightest sense of what you want to do that will help. If you're pursuing something competitive like dermatology then RVU would be the safer bet, but if you know you want to go into primary care then Campbell will get you there. If you're unsure, I would air on the side of caution and go to RVU. Not to say that Campbell can't get you there, but RVU is much more established and for a DO school they have one of the best track records of putting their students into the most competitive residencies. Hope this helps!

RVUCOM seems like the obvious choice. Mandatory lecture and strict dress codes suck... Plus I heard RVUCOM is the only DO school that devotes any time/money toward prepping students for the USMLE exams. The outcomes speak for themselves.

RVU is the only DO school that REQUIRES its students to take the USMLE, which in my opinion is honestly a good thing

Thanks for the replies! I have found that I fit in well with both programs, which makes it difficult to choose between the two. CUSOM is looking to make a name for itself in the coming years based on their board scores so far. Still tough a tough choice haha

Luckily, you still have time so go with your gut!

I would pick CUSOM again. Campbell University's first class started in 2013 but they already developed 15 ACGME accredited programs with more non-primary care residencies in development.

ACGME - Accreditation Data System (ADS)

Campbell wont prevent you from matching into a competitive specialty any more than the next DO school will.
