Non-scheduled and schedule II-V. For instance Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons sometime use cocaine for dealing with severe nose bleeding during rhinoplasty.

I looked at a gov. site that has a list of all the drugs from schedule II-V. Not having taken pharmacology yet my question to you is. Is the scope of drugs we can perscribe wide?

It's as wide as it needs to be. Any drugs you need to prescribe, you can.

You can prescribe anything you need to manage your patients dental health. There was a long recent thread on this if you search for it.

You should remember that many specialties just prescribe for the conditions they treat, regardless of degree. Even with my MD (OMFS) I would never write a script to refill someone's birth control pills (for example). I just don't want the liability that comes with doing favors.

OUr state dental Assoc sends out a pamphlet each year with a list of the dentists who are facing disciplicary action. There were 25 some dentists
Which I think is alot for one state. I'm not sure of how many there are state wide.

2 or 3 were facing disciplinary action for prescribing beyond the scope of their practice.

Other transgressions were: allowing uncertified DA to take Xrays, drug abuse, fraud(overcharging or unecessary treatment), not sterilizing handpieces, sexual misconduct and even rape in one case. There were also 2 that had their license revoked for incompetence

You can seea list of DEA actions at http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/fed_regs/actions/2004/index.html

These are for anyone with a DEA license or anyone applying for one. Some of them are pretty funny. I remember reading one about a guy applying to sell morphine and cocaine through his "business" which turned out to be a white van in his driveway.

I think OMFSRES is somewhere on that list.

Not much else to do on a slow call-night at the hospital than peruse this sight. Especially since they blocked the porn sites...

you just jinxed yourself, never speak of a slow call night

All the porn is blocked at my work as well but a guy I work with found that "breast augmentation" sites don't fall under the "adult content" catagory and show all in full glory. Have fun.

Sounds like the "poor-man's porn" to me. Kind of like those old issues of National Geographic.
