Ryerson University in Canada

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haven't applied, but from the looks of things it may be awhile before anyone hears anythng from them, since they are just getting their MA Psych going this year. I didn't find too much on their site(http://www.ryerson.ca/graduate/psychology/, but then again I didn't look too hard), but I don't think that they are accredited, at least not with APA.

On that note, how does Canadian accreditation work? Can a Can. school even be APA or CACREP accredited?

Did you apply for one of their programs?

They can definitely be APA-accredited, though I know nothing about CACREP.

Lots are, York, McGill, Waterloo, Western Ontario, and Manitoba all are to the best of my knowledge (I looked at all these schools when I applied).

That being said, I think I remember someone posting about more and more canadian internships losing APA-accreditation (often due to not seeking re-accreditation) because Canadian internships and schools are trying to move towards relying on their own accreditation system. Can't say I blame them since APA-accreditation is kind of a clusterf**k it seems! I could be remembering that wrong so don't quote me on it, but I can guarantee that as of summer/fall of 2006, all the schools I mentioned were APA accredited.

The Ryerson programme is not currently CPA accredited, though according to their website they plan to apply.

In response to Dave: Some programs in Canada are currently accredited by the APA (often by both the APA and CPA), as Ollie mentioned.

On February 16, 2007, the Council of Representatives of the APA voted to stop accrediting doctoral programmes and internships in Canada. As such, Ryerson will never be APA accredited, and within a few years even schools which are currently APA accredited will no longer be so.
