When you're looking at a match list, what exactly is a 'trasitional'? And secondly, why do some students match at one place for PGY-1 and then have a different PGY-2 year program?

Thanks!

preliminary. for some programs, you have to do one yr. of internal medicine (i.e., ent, derm and so on). a lot of people match their PGY-1 at one place and PGY-2 somewhere else. hope this answers your question.

Also, some people who dont match will do their PGY-1/transitional year while they try to match again.

so those people who have PGY-1 as transitional at one school and then for PGY-2 has something like Indiana Univ School of Medicine did match, but is going throug a prelim?

But for those who have transitional and then nothing for PGY-2 are those that didn't match and are trying to match again?
