hey y'all. this is a message i just received from CFHI, the organization that i went to India with this past september. i know as premeds and medical students, we have opportunities more than most folks to obtain medical supplies for the people in South Asia. Please ask the doctors you shadow/work with if they have supplies they'd like to donate as well. please be a part of the biggest relief effort the world has ever seen!

(I'm not sure if this thread is consistent with what this forum is all about, so, sorry! but please help out anyway.)

URGENT CALL: EMERGENCY RELIEF FOR S.ASIA

Child Family Health International (CFHI) builds and strengthens sustainable
healthcare services in underserved communities worldwide. In keeping with this
mission, we provide emergency relief in the form of medical supplies during times of
crisis.

During the Gujarat earthquake in India, the Orissa cyclone in India and, most
recently, during the health crisis in Iraq due to the political instability, CFHI
has provided emergency relief to communities most in need. The horrible tragedy that
has resulted from the earthquake and resulting tidal wave in South Asia this week
has moved us to take action again. Though our efforts are limited compared to large
multi-national NGOs, CFHI is committed to making sure that those who want to support
relief efforts in South Asia can do so on a local level.

We will be gathering support over the next few weeks for some IMMEDIATE RELIEF
EFFORTS in conjunction with global partners, and are using our networks to build
continuing support for communities affected by this disaster in India, Sri Lanka,
Indonesia, Malaysia and elsewhere. "Our hands-on approach makes sure that even the
smallest donations will have an impact on the children and families so devastated by
the tidal wave and resulting health crisis. 100% of your contribution will go
towards this relief effort," said Dr. Evaleen Jones, Founder and Medical Director of
CFHI.

Because an urgent response is necessary to stem the potential health hazards that
will emerge from this degree of destruction and death, CFHI is teaming up with
global partners to purchase EMERGENCY MEDICAL SUPPLIES THAT WILL POTENTIALLY SERVE
UP TO 10,000 PEOPLE FOR 3 MONTHS. The cost to provide these medical supplies -
including items like gauze, thermometers, bandages and basic medicines - is a mere
$2,500. CFHI has already committed to sending one of these shipments, and will
continue to work with our partners to determine the most effective future relief
work to be done. Your help is needed to meet our goal, and DONATIONS CAN BE MADE
ONLINE AT WWW.CFHI.ORG. Please write "S.Asian Tidal Wave Relief" on your donation
form or check.
