I'm interviewing at LECOM next month and I have a few questions for LECOM students and those who have already interviewed there:

1) What's the best place to stay at?

2) Is it easy to get around Erie without a car? (i.e. how's public transportation)

3) Is there anything that I need to know about the interview day that I can't find out about in the Interview Feedback?

4) If anyone has any other tips they want to enlighten me with, that would be great!

1) I stayed on Peach Street and I think it was a spring hill suites....there is a ton of hotels there you should be fine.

2) Not very good public transportation to the school area. Its kinda in a suberb.

3) The only think I wish I knew is that I really didn't get a good lunch. I wasn't there for lunch but I left kinda hungry.

4)Go there, have fun. They were friendly and the interview wasn't that stressful. Good luck. 🙂

I stayed at the Econolodge on Peach Street. It's the cheapest I found on Peach. It has a shuttle that picks up from the airport and even drops off/picks up from LECOM. Plus it has room service from several places (Applebees, Pizza, etc...) which helps a lot when you're alone, starving, and it's freezing outside.

Good luck on your interview! Just relax and know your application.

Hi- congrats on getting an interview! I'm an MS1 at LECOM- Some tips:

1) What's the best place to stay at?
I stayed at Days Inn on Peach Street and I know they offer a shuttle service. Also, mention that you're going to be interviewing at LECOM and they'll give you a discount.

2) Is it easy to get around Erie without a car? (i.e. how's public transportation)
For the interview, you can probably get away with not having a car, but if you decide to attend, you will need a car. There is a bus system but from what I've heard, its not that convenient. Besides, you'll need to drive to clinical preceptorship during your first year, and thats not close by.

3) Is there anything that I need to know about the interview day that I can't find out about in the Interview Feedback?
Just relax and be friendly. Everyone is nice and the interview is quite laid back. Don't be afraid to ask them questions.

Good luck! If you have any other qu estions, feel free to PM me!

I agree with what Neeja said. I would stay on Peach at a place that has shuttle service. Most of the hotels are on Peach anyway. As for bus lines, they don't drop off close to campus which is why no one at LECOM takes the bus to class. The bottom line is you need a car. Erie is not quite as "middle of nowhere" as many people describe it and it is useful to own a car. I honestly don't know of many, if any, that don't own one.
LECOM's interview is very low stress. You have a tour, get some questions answered, sit in a room and then you spend about 15-20 mins in a standard med school interview. Then they attempt to serve you "lunch", but you don't have to stay. I was there at 8AM and out by 12:30- shortest interview I had. Don't sweat it- like any interview just know the whys(why medicine, why osteopathic medicine, why THIS school, etc).

aquabat, just pm'd ya, I have an interview in March as well..

Thanks for all the tips, everyone! You guys are great! Thanks for shedding light on the car situation--I had a feeling that it would be okay to not have one while there for the interview but pretty much necessary if attending school there. I was wondering--what's it like when you have to drive around in pretty bad snow?

I'll check my PMs now.

I don't know how these people drive without 4 wheel drive! I love mine...but my good friend doesn't have any problems with his trusty Chevy Cavalier!

Once you get used to the snow, it's not bad at all. My Dodge Stratus made it through two Erie winters just fine! 🙂

Its not the snow that makes the driving bad.....its the drivers.
My roommate for MSI and MSII drove a Camaro....never had any problems with it (at least none with the snow). Me, as much as I love my Explorer, I miss my old Civic....it was a manual (my explorer is an automatic) The manual is much better in snow than an automatic. Used to take that Civic up skiing every weekend while living in really snowy conditions of N. Idaho, and W. Washington! Never got stuck!
Now the potholes that form in Erie when the snow melts....thats another issue......
