I am going to VCOM next year and I have a few questions. 1 Do you need a microscope or any extra equipment other than what is provided? 2. What is better place to live Blacksburg or somewhere else. 3. What is the funnest thing to do in Blacksburg for a first year? If I can meet anyone that is also going to VCOM next year or who is already there, please feel free to pm me or to add anymore info you like. VCOM rocks!!!! 😀

Hi!

No, you don't need a microscope. All of your slides will be seen electronically. Any other equipment you need (i.e. dissecting kit) will be provided.

As far as living goes, most people live in Blacksburg, but there is also a good number of people who live in Christiansburg (our neighboring city). Christiansburg isn't that far away (maybe 5 - 10minutes) so it really doesn't make a difference if you live there.

Fun in Blacksburg, that's an oxymoron! (Just kidding!) Many of our classmates have parties, here at the school we have Potlucks on the first Friday of every month with movies, contests, etc., and there is also Huckleberry Trail (which is a nature trail where you can go walking, biking, or jogging....nice view of Appalachia).

Blacksburg is a nice town, with a good study atmosphere. Glad you liked our school!!! 🙂

I got in Oct 14 and I was interviewed on the 7th of the same month. How about you?

Good luck my friend, they will call the day they make the choice, it is a great call to get! I really liked mine beacuse it was the first school I got into. You should be cool. Good luck :luck: :luck:

As a future VCOM student I wish to get know some of the opinons about the school and various teachers. I know that the school is the best but I wish to know what students think about various professors. I wish to know about Dr. Sprague, and Dr. Stanzak. They both interviewed me and I really enjoyed the visit with them. Are they great people to learn from, or is it just me? I also wish to know about Dr. Santos, the pathology guy. I have interest in him because he is from Albania, where my wife also happens to be from and I am in the process of learning that language. Is a good teacher as well, most doctors I have met from Albania have been great people and I wish to know if people think the same way as I do. Also tell me about the social seen in the Blacksburg-Roanoke area. I was only there for one day and did not get much time to look around. I fell in love with the school and I want it all!!
Go VCOM!

Cool deal dude. I didn't have the chance to meet any of those three, but I interviewed with Drs. Lo and Woodfield and Mr. King. I enjoyed my interview with all three and thought they were great people. VCOM really is a unique school.
