Does anyone wanna talk about the SAE...like...what the hell was that?!

I had no clue about all of the rehab policy stuff. Overall, however, I didn't think it was that bad. If I compare it to when I was preparing for the USMLE/COMLEX, when I began to take prep tests, it was way more comfortable than USMLE tests. I really didn't think it was that bad. If boards are like that, then I will be happy. At least thats what I think now, when the results come back I may edit this post!! 🙂 But, I didn't think it was too bad.

Well I have taken three of them now and I thought that this was one of the most poorly written of the SAE's.

I don't know if any of you are familiar with Woot.com, but I feel the SAE was the PM&R version of their BOC (Bag O' Crap). Seriously. Could they get a more random mix of knowledge on paper to test us with?

I just thought the questions were ridiculously vague. For all my fellow DO residents out there, I felt like I was taking the COMLEX. There were several questions where I felt all the answer choices were wrong...I had to pick to least wrong one! Anyway, whatevs...till next year...

Exactly, you feel compelled to pick the least wrong! Good way to put it. Also, the SAE's always seem a random mix with several questions that make it verbatim from old tests just rotated from year to year.

How do your programs use your SAE scores? In our department they might as well post 'em on the door to rehab unit for all to see. Is this common? I thought that in our field people weren't so numbers-focused.

At my program, no one else but you and the PD sees the scores. The PD doesn't even bring it up during our bi-annual review sessions. He thinks the SAE is just what it is, a "self-assessment" exam. So it's for your use only. I don't even think he releases the scores to ppl who request them.

our program places a ridiculous amount of importance on the exam. For PGY3s it basically decides who becomes chief resident the next year. Its kind of absurd to be quite honest...

I found that many anesthesia pain fellowship PDs were interested in the SAE score of PMR applicants.
