Just thought I'd start a thread for those of us who have already been accepted to a school, but are currently on waiting lists at our top choices. How long are you going to wait for your top choice to come through before just going to the school you were accepted to? Also, what are you doing in the meantime?

Since ive already sent the deposit money, im just hanging out until mid july. I guess ill wait until about late june.

I'm giving myself the deadline of July 1st.

Would it also be okay to ask where you've been accepted and which schools you are holding out for?

I am in this boat. I was accepted to NYCOM but holding out for UNECOM. I'm just tryin to stay positive and focus on other things (although it is a little hard sometimes). Best of luck to everyone in this sticky situation!

I was in that situation from November until the first week of March. While it is amazing to get the chance to become a doctor, there's always that nagging desire to get into your first choice.

Hang in there and best of luck! :luck: :biglove:

I too am in this boat...I have been accepted to DCOM (my #2 school, well 1A really) and am waiting on OSUCOM. I would probably be willing to hold out until about the final second possible. It is honestly a nice spot to be in.

I have been accepted to Touro-Ny(pretty excited about it), I am also waitlisted at UMDNJ. UMDNJ is my #1 choice, and since UMDNJ starts classes before Touro-ny, I will be holding out till the end. It is a safe position to be in, but definetly not fun.

sunshineNYC, what school have you been accepted to, and where are you waitlisted?

I have been accepted to NYCOM, but am on the ASA and waiting lists at UNECOM and VCOM. I also have yet to interview at WVSOM. UNECOM and VCOM are pretty close in the runnings for first choice for me, so I'll see who takes me first, if either one does.

I've been accepted to LECOM Erie and waiting to hear from PCOM Philly. My reasons for not wanting to attend LECOM are more superficial than anything else. I know I'd get a good education there, but it is Erie and mandatory dress codes and food restrictions aren't that appealing. Hopefully the PCOM waitlist will get off it's ass and start to move soon.

Well UNECOM sent me an e-mail saying I'm in the 2nd tier of the waiting list... out of 4, and the 2nd one is the MOST uncertain of them all. Apparently they usually get to the 1st and then some students from the 2nd tier get in, so it looks like it's just more waiting for me. Hopefully VCOM will give me some better news in the coming weeks.😳

I am lined up to go to DCOM (my #2), but my first choice is PCOM-GA. I think we have decided to hold out until we sell our house. Once that happens we have to commit to DCOM if we haven't heard from PCOM-GA. 🙁

Hello to all in this situation

I understand your position with debating between multiple acceptances or waiting for your first choice while already being accepted into another.

I would just like to say that please consider that many of us have no acceptances and are waiting daily for news of a waitlist moving to offer an acceptance to us. Please try to notify the school as early as possible when you have made your decision not to attend that school.

Best of luck to you all in your decision making and future medical careers.

I do feel for you, but you must also consider that this thread was probably not started to upset anyone who has not been accepted. There are always going to be people who have it better than us at different points in our lives.

I feel that this is a valid thread for those of us in this situation. I do believe that people should choose their words wisely so that no one, like yourself, is offended.

Thanks for the well-wishes and good luck to you :luck:

I guess I can fit into here. I got into NYCOM, which out of all my schools, MD and DO, it was around number 3 or 4. Tufts, which has been my #1 for years, has me on the waitlist. I'm going to wait until the end of June, and if they don't call me, I'm going apartment hunting on LI and sign a lease for a place.

Currently accepted at #2 chioce NYCOM and waitlisted at AECOM. AECOM is my top choice and I'll hang in their until I get a rejection letter.

I suppose you received the NYCOM bill yesterday then too? It makes the time crunch even worse. I'm still waiting, but feel like I have to make a decision sometime soon. I'm moving out of my apartment this weekend and into another one until the end of July (subleasing). I think the NYCOM bill is due August 1st, correct me if I am wrong. So, I'll probably stick it out until mid July and then make a decision.

I agree. I just received another acceptance. I will withdraw from my other acceptance as soon as the second school receives my desposit. That'll open up a space for some people who have been asking me about the first school.

Congradulations on the acceptance!!!

Thanks for the support, everyone. 🙂
I should clarify that I didn't receive a second acceptance just now, but it was like 10 days ago...
Both schools are listed in my sig, which I will update once they receive my deposit and it all becomes official. 🙂

Congrats StringerBell! We'll miss you at SOMA, but I'm happy you've found you're match!

Thought I might hear from you!
It's kind of a tough decision, especially since I got my first choice CHC, and an invitation to go visit it from the CHC director.
I know of a couple of SDN'ers who are on the waitlist at SOMA, so hopefully one will grab my spot.

Hi guys, For those that are safe, but still on the waiting list for their top school, how far do you go with the financial aid process before it is too late to withdraw? I know that completing the fafsa is not a big deal, but at this point the schools want you to have applied for your loans and also sign the promissary note. I guess I want to know that if I sign a promissary note for one school, can I withdraw to go to another if I get taken of the waiting list at my top school?

Thanks

Not sure 100% but the prom. note has nothing to do with saying that you will borrow money from the school. Its about re-paying the money you borrow. If you withdraw, thus never borrowing any money, what can they do? you've already submitted your deposit which will go down the drain anyway, so i do not foresee this having any bearing on you choosing a new school.

I'm in at CCOM.
I'm hanging around for RFU- waitlisted. And maybe UIC- 'no action on my app yet' (not sure if i'd attend if accepted bc of the campus locations)

Well VCOM called to tell me that I'm in the top 10 and they think that it will work out for this year, the way the list has been moving. So... that is good news. Hopefully the wait won't be too much longer. In the meantime, I'm getting all the necessary documents together so I'll be set to go. UNECOM seemed sort of optimistic also, but they haven't sent me anything official yet, so whoever calls first will get me. At this point I sort of don't care which one... both schools are great... I just want to get out of the NY area.

Hello people. I just called UNECOM to withdraw my acceptance. I've decided that going to my state medical school will be better for me instead. It was a tough decision because I think UNECOM is a great place. I hope my spot will make one of you very happy! Enjoy New England for me...it's like my second home.

Well it makes me very happy since I'm on the waiting list there. 🙂 I hope I'm high enough up on that list to get pulled. I called the office just now, but they said that everyone's out until Monday, so I'll wait until then, hopefully I'll get some good news!

VCOM came through... I'm going there! I gave up my seat at NYCOM today... I hope that makes someone else happy.

I still haven't heard anything from UNECOM.... though I have left messages and e-mails and so forth....

Congrats sunshine on your first choice acceptance!!! with the added bonus of making someone on the NYCOM waitlist very happy, too! Best wishes to you 🙂

wow congrats! I'm still WL at my first choice but apart of me has already given up...

I'm also still waitlisted at my top choice, but at this point, even if they accept me, I can't go, I already have a lease signed and everything by the school I'll be going to. Kind of sucks, but you can't hold out forever. Besids, everything happens for a reason. I guess I was meant to go to NYCOM.

I just got a phone call from UMDNJ. Too late for me and FL is too nice, but for those of you waiting, the list is moving.
