Safeway denied a transfer prescription request

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That Safeway pharmacist was being an dingus, lazy, or just stupid. He could have verbally just transferred the information by phone and be done with it, especially if its just lisinopril. Takes like 30 seconds wtf. Why is this so hard to do? I mean technically he can deny transferring or filling anything he wants if he wants to accept the consequences but he shouldn't be working there if he can't spare 30 seconds of his time to save a fellow pharmacist and the patient time as well...

The BOPs scare me as much as a kitten. Put an attorney in front of them and they fold like a napkin.

Maybe the OP was one of those pharmacists that you need to repeat everything twice for including spelling the name of the drug? I don't miss the days of having to talk like I was communicating with a 2nd grader when giving a transfer.

I never take an Rx without documenting a clear read back. Spelling the drug is something I only do if it is something weird I have never heard of before.

I always thought “screw you if you don’t like a readback. I’ll bet my error rate is vastly lower than yours”. I’m not exactly saying that to you right now - I would only think that about you if you thought what you said about me reading back an xfer

Just tell the patient to call the doctor and have them send a new copy to you. If they don't want to do that they can go to Safeway. You already wasted enough time trying to get the transfer.

Had a competitor in a small town try to stall for days and/or refuse to give us transfers on multiple occasions. After getting nowhere with the PIC diplomatically, I faxed them an excerpt from the state board and underlined the section saying transfer requests must be honored within x amount of business hours or be considered in violation.

I told them my corporate office instructed me to do this and they would be monitoring the situation, and please don't force me to have corporate call their DM as well as the state board the next time the regulation isn't followed. Never had a problem after that. I don't know if your state has the same regulations on transfers, however.

Hahah, I would do this right off the bat if someone refused out of laziness, except I'd include a time stamp of the exact time I'd made the first request.
There's a certain infamous CVS floater in the Austin area that I chewed to bits over refusing to transfer an antibiotic.

"Uhhh, I'm really busy. I'll send it to you tomorrow."

It is a slow store. No rivalry- it is "safeway policy that started last summer but they are enforcing it now." I have spoken to the manager. On two separate occasions.

I am going to file a complaint to the Board that this is violating patient right to their prescription.

I was hoping someone from safeway would give me a rationale behind this. Or if this is some made up bs. I dont like the problem it is causing me and my patients.

If I remember correctly it was indeed implemented for 1-2 weeks period; not only from other competitors but also store to store transfer. Pharmacy staff found it inefficient and I they stopped that shortly after (besides c3-5). Also this is a while back.
