Hello everyone!

Although I have read much about the salaries from various East Asian countries, I would like to ask about the salary in the Philippines for physician specialties. I don't think I have come across any figures, just a lot of "the salary is low" compared to other countries.

Also, could some clear up the amount of time it takes to study, how many years in each step, and if you make any salary/allowance during this time?

Thank you so much!

Jeff

Depends...for an intern it can be anywhere from ZERO pesos a month to maybe P1500. Rumor is that at the military hospitals the "allowance" is higher (even for a civilian) as there is free parking, a food allowance and supposedly better salary than at an academic hospital, private or government hospital.

Residents may earn more, say about P10K/month; fellows about P14K/month.

A medical officer in the barangay health center/dept. of health is paid about P20K/month.

Of course there are those with robust practices in various locations who are 'outliers'...there are physicians here who earn the equivalent or MORE than their counterparts in the developed world 😀. Remember that cost of living is LOW in the RP, you can have a 24/7 domestic helper for less than P5K/month, a full time driver to manuever through the traffic and to make sure that when your car's side mirrors are stolen, there's someone there to try to call the security or police ... BUT, every modern electronic convenience is likely less expensive abroad (e.g. laptop computers are 40% less in the USA, and a car like a European import is 50% more here in the RP than in the developed world. If you happen to want a BMW, you'll have to get it from an UNauthorized car-dealer, as BMW recently closed shop in the RP...) so things even out...or are lop-sided depending on how you look at things...

another 'index' would be for you to compare the MD salary that the W.H.O. pays an MD in Manila vs an MD in New York City, USA or Geneva, Switzerland...its very SAD that the salary paid to the MD in Manila is a fraction of what the MD with the SAME rank/position in NYC or Geneva is paid!

Anyway...most salaries are LOW. But NOT ALL.

You need to remember the exodus of MD's becoming RNs to LEAVE the RP for 'greener pastures' in the developed world happens/ed for a reason...
