Dental salaries 2012?

what exactly is your question?

Graduates can they make money in economic slowdown ??

One thread you're asking whether u shud join DDS and another you're asking about NBME study material? What are you man?

@ hamoudh

Hey man I think I am free to ask any question on this forum regarding dentistry... U r no one to judge me?

After dental school you can make anywhere from $80,000 to $250,000 a year in your first years out depending on location, socioeconomics of patient population, skill level, confidence, salesmanship, personality, and ethical beliefs. I know this probably doesn't help much but then you asked a really vague and general question.

I'm just guessing here...but I think it's because the BDS is the dental degree from Southeast Asia, and to be able to practice as a DDS in the US, a foreign-trained dentist needs to take NBDE part 1, to even apply for the IDS programs...

To the OP, I've heard the dental field isn't as lucrative as it used to be pre-2008 recession, so now "fresh grads" are making around $80k. But as DrJeffreyt put it, a lot depends on your confidence and skill, and if you are coming as a foreign-trained dentist (which I'm assuming) you should definitely be more skilled than your classmates--now it'll just be about fine-tuning your skills to make it match what the US requirements are.

Yes, being on visa you should also be able to earn that much, I just obviously don't know if there will be different tax rates or not? I'm not a practicing dentist by any means, I'm a pre-dent but do have friends who have graduated from the IDS programs.

And join the DDS program if you really want to work in the US. Yes earning potential in the US is probably greater, but the cost of living is significantly greater, too, so I'd say it's all about the same. Just depends on where you want to live--Southeast Asia or US. Good luck 🙂
