hey guys

I am a little bit confused about saltwater and freshwater fish in terms of their drinking and urinating

could anybody please explain?

Think hypertonic, hypotonic.

Saltwater fish are constantly surrounded by salt. So their environment is hypertonic, and saltwater fish lose water to the salty environment easily. Therefore, they want to urinate as little as possible to conserve water while drinking as much as possible/filtering out as much salt as possible to get their water supply.

Freshwater fish is the opposite....hypotonic environment, constantly need to gain salts and lose water to help maintain balance.....so they don't drink as much but they pee like hell.
