Program-Specific Info / Q's Salus University MOT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its a week long placement (40hrs), although its a tinnnnny chance that you could have an alternative schedule (like going for five sundays or something like that, but thats rare and unlikely).

What programs are considering, if you dont mind me asking?
I don't mind at all!
I got accepted to Jefferson's OTD, but there's a possibility (if I don't get scholarships) that it's going to cost double! Since I think I might eventually want to complete a Ph.D, I'm worried I won't get much research experience. I'm also waiting back from UNE, but I think I prefer Salus.

Thanks, that's great to hear! Is it at the end when courses are over, and would it be possible to get it close-ish to home for out of staters? You've been such a great help, and the info you've given us may have bumped Salus up a great deal for me. ;)

I just got accepted to salus as well!!! are you definitely going to attend or weighing your options? i'm not sure what to do but I'm glad they are mailing the rest of the materials rather than asking for a deposit immediately.
Yeah, definitely. Jefferson (OTD) is giving me until the 13th, so I'm hoping to hear about scholarships before I decide. It's going to be really difficult to accept Jefferson if it's double the cost. :/

Im almost certain that its usually in the middle of the semester... so like our spring fieldwork week is the first week of March. We don't have our summer or fall schedule, but I doubt if either one of them will be after classes are over. Also, you can definitely give them your home address ( that's what I did)... you can give them any address/area you want and they will try to find placement for you there.

Sadly, money is always an issue. I didnt apply to any OTD programs (even though I also think I want my PhD) bc I knew I didnt want to take out the extra money in loans... im hoping to get a job that will help finance my OTD or I may just go straight to a PhD program (since they fund you...).

Good luck. I hope you hear back from Jefferson in time to make the best decision for yourself!

yeah i can imagine with the cost! thats nice that you have time to decide and really figure out what is best for you. I have an interview at stockton this wednesday, so I think my choices will definitely be between Stockton and Salus (if i get into Stockton) since I completed my undergrad there. Good luck with your decision!

Hi guys, I'm also starting Salus this coming fall! Undecided if I'll be looking for housing (I live 30 min. away from campus) but I'd like to make a FaceBook Group for the Class of 2018. Let me know if I can add some of you so we can create one. Thanks!

The current OT SGA members will start a fb group for the incoming class (probably sometime soon). They will send a link to all the accepted student....makes it easier and helps to not leave anyone out.

I applied back in October and when I saw people on here getting interviews who applied later than I had, I decided to ask about the status of my application in December. They replied back with the following in case you're interested:

"Shortly after you applied through OTCAS, a preliminary review of your file was conducted by the Admissions Office. Based on your credentials, it was determined that you were a strong enough candidate to be considered for further review in a very competitive process. However, you have not yet been selected to interview for the incoming class of 2016.

Your file is still considered "active" as the program is still interviewing candidates.

While our class is just about full, we'll continue to review and place a select few qualified candidates on a standby list should any seats become available. The interview process will continue until early spring so there is still a possibility that you may be contacted.

If your status does not change by early spring, we would encourage you to consider reapplying for the next OT admission cycle which begins in July, 2016."

The OT Facebook for the 2018 class is already active. Search "Salus OT Class of 2018"

Congrats to those of you attending!

Thanks for the info. I'll try emailing them this week to see what's going on!

Does anyone know if the Fall 2016 class is full?

I emailed Salus and received the same exact email from them that I got waitlisted on Friday. So I suppose they still have a few spots left!

Oooo good luck!
Undergrad major: Public Health
Undergrad GPA -3.52
Pre- Req GPA- 4.0
Cumulative GPA- 3.58

GRE- 150Q 161V 4.0 AW
(I was afraid my Q score was too low but at the interview they said it shouldn't be a problem and they basically just want to make sure you have some test taking abilities)

Observation hours were around 175 total - 100+ from various schools for children/young adults with disabilities, 10 ish from a public mainstream elementary school, 40 from a subacute rehab setting with older adults and geriatrics

volunteer/extracurriculars include being a counselor at a sleepaway summer camp for kids with special needs, interning at Autism Speaks, lots of community/public health internship experience, leadership position in my sorority, (nothing from undergrad specifically related to OT)

employment - random jobs throughout college (waitress, administrative assistant); currently a teaching assistant at a school for adults with disabilities

certifications: CPR, CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist)

Keep us posted on how it goes!!

Hi, did you go for an interview? Any insight or advice? I have an interview at Salus in two weeks :)
also, congrats!

Thank you! Yes, I interviewed last week! As people have said before, they were very friendly and laid back. First, the head of the program gives you a casual overview of the curriculum/program, then you interview with a faculty member who has never seen your file or application before, then you tour the school with a current student/eat lunch, then you do an exit interview with an admissions officer. For both interviews, it was definitely important to have reflected on your observation experiences so that you're able to use different anecdotes and situations you observed to answer their questions. Also important to know the basics (why you want to be an OT, what OT is, etc). Also be ready to talk about anything at all in your file or application with the admissions officer (your academic experiences, things you've done unrelated to OT, etc).

My advice would just be to feel confident and relaxed, and think of it as them just trying to get to know you better! Good luck, you'll do great!

I have an interview there on Tuesday next week! Thanks for the advice :)

hey, do you think you are gonna go to Salus? I was accepted, and I haven't heard back from other schools yet (besides some interviews). I really liked the vibe I got from the professors and students, and the tuition is just crazy...about half as much as the other schools I applied to! Wondering if you have made a decision/what your opinion is about Salus...in particular about the newness of the program/its reputation vs the reputation of more "known" schools.

Congrats! I have not made a decision for the same types of reasons. So far I have been accepted to Salus and Washington University St. Louis. Salus is so so so much cheaper than WUSTL, and for me, much closer as well. The struggle for me has been debating the resources and opportunities offered at a school like WUSTL compared to Salus. Thinking practically, I almost feel silly even considering a school nearly double the price, but knowing that I could have more opportunities can be really tempting as well.

For me, I definitely liked the close knit community vibe at Salus, and the fact that it seems very clinically based compared to research oriented, but it definitely still makes me nervous to turn down a program with more connections/opportunities. So as of now I am still undecided!

congratulations on having such a great decision to make! can't go wrong either way. thanks for the input, and good luck in the future :)

I had an interview at Salus today! I feel like it went well, and I'm really hoping that I'll be accepted to the program. Salus is currently at the top of my list, so my fingers are crossed!

For anyone that has an interview scheduled: don't worry! Everyone that I spoke with today really emphasized that they didn't intend to cause any stress and that they just wanted to get to know us.

No new info from me- but yeah I got that same email too, don't really know how much they actually care about that. I didn't retake the gres and still got an interview and wasn't completely rejected. Don't lose hope!
Hi Keot, this was an old post, but did you get accepted even if yoh didnt retake the GRE? Like they suggested...?
