I have been stressing myself out to no end. I screwed up while working on my AA and got a low gpa like a 2.6 or 2.7. As of right now I’m working on my bachelors of biomedicine and I just completed my first semester. With The following grades:
Chem1: B
Chem1 lab: A
Spanish: B
Trigonometry:B
Precalc: C (I had a 78.5) smfh
But I have been stressing to no end. I am terrified that I will not get into medical school. Anyone have any tips or advice for me?

Hey, don’t beat yourself up! Just see where you made mistakes and learn from them. You’re only one semester in of 8. You have plenty left to go! Set a plan, study study study, seek help, volunteer, get clinical experience if you can but focus on your grades first. EC’s and everything else comes second. Good luck.

I appreciate it! I am just stressing over how low my AA gpa was. Which is going to drastically bring my overall gpa down. I work as a veterinary technician and have for the past year( no i don’t want to do animal medicine) but I cut my hours back to be able to focus on school more. I’m just hoping that my low AA gpa doesn’t come back and bite me.

You still have all of your pre-reqs so I wouldn’t worry about it, to be honest. GPA is important but it’s only one part of the application. You can probably calculate what kind of GPA you could expect with all of your classes combined, including your AA. Doing great on the MCAT could help compensate for that GPA as well.

Yea I am definitely going to study hard for MCAT. Just been going in circles. I had a lot going on when i was working on my AA not to mention I was young and dumb. But I have a couple LOR and I am a chair for Chiari and sryingomielia foundation. Going to start shadowing Physicians soon.

Well since every single course you earned in college or college classes taken in hs will count in your AMCAS GPA calculations you should worry. Your CC grades are low and from the looks of it you have only slightly improved this past semester. Do you know why you are doing poorly? Is it your study methods, the content, test taking skills? Perhaps you should go to the learning resource center at your school and ask for help. Maybe they can assist you in setting up a plan. With each passing semester it becomes more difficult to raise your GPA. Although you should be working on your ECs, I think you need to focus solely on your grades at this point. At this point your GPAs won’t make it through an auto screen. You can certainly turn this around but you have to start right now. Good luck.

Well the reason I did so poorly during my AA degree is because i was an idiot and wasn’t taking school seriously. But as for this past semester I took it more seriously but my study habits weren’t the greatest as I worked a full time job and tried to balance both. Since my grades weren’t all As I have pulled back my hours to purely 2 days a week so the other 5 can be devoted to studying.

Well whatever the cause you have to understand that your GPA is below 3.0 right now. That won’t clear the auto screen at most schools. With each passing semester it is increasingly hard to did yourself out of the hole you are in. You have start getting As from this point on. Have you researched DO schools? Many of them are more forgiving of lower GPAs. Not as low as your’s but lower than say 3.4 or so. But DO schools are becoming more competitive every year so it’s really important to start doing well. There is always the opportunity for post bacc(formal or DIY) and SMP programs. But your current GPA would be an obstacle to acceptance at a SMP.
