same update letter

I would like to send my update letter to a few schools. In the interest of keeping everything brief and non-repetitive of my secondary, is it fair to send these schools the same letter? I don't want to waste time restating their mission statement and my alignment.

Why not add at least 1 paragraph specific to the school? "I am still interested in XYZSOM because..."

Sending a generic update letter just sounds like a formula for regret later when you wish you had been more specific

I understand this, which is why I am posting for advice, but I feel like anything I would write for"I am still interested in XYZSOM because..." is what I stated in my secondary. I feel like I have been diligent and showed my alignment in my "why us" answers.

Unless the school has sent an email this cycle stating they are open to you expressing continued interest (WMED and SLU, for example), then just wait until you have something substantial to inform them of.

I don't understand how this is going to help your applications. "Update letter" implies you have an update. Where have you interviewed? Or are you still in radio silence?

Without an II, you should update whenever it is a significant accomplishment. I don't know what you mean by a "brief, non-repetitive summary" of your secondary application. Every secondary is different. Every mission is different.

I guess you're doing a "check-in" pointing out "have you read my application?" Usually the answer you'll get is "yes we've screened your application." So then, what's next?

If you have actual updates (as in, new items not on your secondary that they may find interesting...i.e. new activities, new publications, new awards, etc.) then yes you can send them same.

Don't go about trying to reiterate mission statement, they can garner that from your secondary as is. This is just to add new information worth considering.

Generally no. Schools read them in different ways but I don't think it pushes you back

Hello, sorry I should have clarified. I have an actual update (my thesis and new graduate tutoring position, and I have hit over my hundred-hour mark). I meant that I am only writing about these updates in the letter rather than including another paragraph of "I am still interested in your school." Of course, I have a sentence or two to make it specific to the school and reconnect to its mission. These would be going to schools. I have not received an interview invite yet.

I meant that I am only writing about these updates in the letter rather than including another paragraph of "I am still interested in your school."
