"Nothing great in medicine has ever happened from an institute." (Claiming that people like Jonas Salk were independent researchers too>)
lol
After a quick search, I could only find one paper on the goat milk virus he describes and HIV. The paper only said that HIV and the CAE virus can cross react immunologically and could be a potential source of HIV test false-positives.

This spontaneously came to mind...Dr. Alfred Blalock successfully discovered a surgical intervention for blue-baby syndrome at Johns Hopkins. I highly doubt the cure for cancer or HIV is hiding in someone's basement. If there was a cure it would be made available..look at sofosbuvir/ledipasvir (Harvoni) which in most cases cures hepatitis C.

I look forward to his work on Forsythia when the plague comes.
He makes some very bold and unscientific claims in the interview. From terrible shape to "cured" same day with his snake oil? His thought process of going to high risk areas potentially resistant to disease to find tx is good but after that he veers in dr Oz territory...

While I generally enjoy watching bill maher's show for the political debate he unfortunately has fallen for some of the anti-medicine propaganda that's out there and has in the past been supportive of anti-vaccination rhetoric. It's interesting to parallel his support for climate science by pointing out that almost all scientists agree about climate change yet when all but one doctor agree on something he sides with the nuts who claim vaccines give you autism and hiv can be cured with goat milk.
As a side note Charlie sheen went back on his anti retroviral meds because he was obviously not cured by this quack.

He quotes all these papers from cedar Sinai and stuff but I wasn't able to find any of them when I looked online. Just doesn't seem believable that this dude has made major scientific breakthroughs and the entire scientific community just said "naaaaa"
This is interesting. I might be willing to humor this guy simply because I know what monsters big pharma can actually be (they put money before people's health, period). But I'd need to see more. What countries has this guy supposedly cured of HIV? I'm familiar with the idea of using viruses to eliminate cancers and think it's a very promising area of research (Duke is using a modified poliovirus to treat glioblastomas), but against other viruses? That's the first I've heard of that.
Edit: Here's the whole story https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.or...h-bill-maher-embraces-goat-milk-hiv-quackery/
tl;dr he's a quack
