Has anyone else confirmed their interview invitation to SMU? I confirmed mine last week and I'm trying to prepare for the interview right now. Does anyone know what the interview is like? I'd imagine brushing up on a bit of anatomy, physio, exercise physio as well as preparing for questions about experience, career goals, etc. would be important. Is it going to be a group interview, panel based, or one-on-one?
 
I have an interview for Samuel Merritt as well. I'm pretty nervous about it because it is the first that I will be attending.

Yes, I've gotten a couple of emails about the date, time, specific interview times, etc.
 
Samuel Merritt's making calls...just FYI. They said an email should go out closer to the end of the day. 🙂

I didn't get a call but I did get an email about 5 minutes after I read your post and all I saw was "CONGRATULATIONS".
 
Accepted with phone call/email today.

FWIW, 3.6 GPA with V:165 Q:157 AW: 5.0, 280 hours in and out patient, masters in another field
 
I got the email a little after 2. My stats:

Major: Human Physiology
GPA: 3.44
PTCAS Prereq: 3.37
GRE: 161 V, 157 Q, 4.0 W
Observation Hours: ~1200 Outpatient ~150 Inpatient at 2 facilities ~15 at a rural hospital both in and out (I have more Observation Hours now but that is what was on my app)
Extra-curricular: Worked for orientation at my school for 2 summers and spent one year as a student co-director, STAR reader (read with a 2nd grader)
 
Major: Exercise Science
GPA: 3.64
PTCAS Prereg: 3.43
GRE: V 151 Q 155 W 4.0
Observation Hours: 100 Out-patient, 200 In-Patient
Extra Curriculars: D1 Softball, Preschool volunteer, softball clinic volunteer, National Society of Collegiate Scholars
 
I'm waitlist #17. I wonder if I have a shot at making it...

My stats btw:

Major: Psych
GPA: 3.88
Pre-req: 3.71
GRE: V: 157, Q:158, W: 4.5
Obs. Hours: Only 60 inpatient

Quite surprised I even got a waitlist spot, since I decided only 2 years ago to start working my way to PT. I guess my interviews + grades/test scores look pretty good.

Well, I am waitlisted. #1/47 just my luck i guess...

Cumulative GPA is 3.28 (Biology BS with MCD concentration - Class of 2011)
PTCAS Science GPA 3.49
GRE scores: 1st try - 159Q/155V/5AW
: 2nd try - 161Q/157V/5AW

Volunteering hours: 120 Inpatient spinal cord injury, 105 general outpatient (2 clinics)
Extracurricular: Part time jobs throughout college, intramural sports year-round

Applied to: Samuel Merritt University, Chapman University, CSU (Sacramento, Northridge, Long Beach), University of Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences
Interview: Samuel Merritt University (2/2)

Consider yourself number 16! I was 10 and just told them to take me off the list. I'm between Miami and Arcadia. Good luck!!!
 
Thanks, I think I have a strong chance of getting in, but you never know. I'd rather have the reassurance that I am in for sure you know? And Samuel Merritt is the only school I have heard from... I know some people who have interviewed for Western and have been accepted by CSULB and Chapman so it's just stressful... Where else are you applying to? is Samuel Merritt one of your top choices?
 
I was very impressed with Samuel Merritt on the interview weekend and am so stoked to have received an acceptance there. The faculty was awesome, the students were smart and welcoming, and the campus is definitely a place I can see myself at! This is definitely one of my top choices. I was impressed with the amount of time we will get in the clinic and loved how the professors really cared about the whole person opposed to just statistics. Being of service and treating people holistically seems to be an integral part of the program. Good luck everyone

SM was the only school I applied to. To be honest, I'm very new to the PT field (I decided only a few years ago) and I wasn't quite prepared for this application cycle. I live in the East Bay and I've been in a relationship for 5+ years (gf loves her job in Union City), so I'd rather go to either SM or UCSF instead of living in Sacramento or somewhere far. UoP is a possible school in the future, but it's a long commute.

Anyone know people who are declining their SM admission? I'm assuming a lot of people in the area are waiting for UCSF. I'm nervous that #17 isn't gonna cut it this year.
 
Yes, but now you're number 15! My impression is that schools regularly go through a big chunk of their wait-list. If you look at past posts a lot of people get in off of the wait-list even as low as 30. And I think you're right, a big chunk of people that got into SMU will also get into UCSF/SFSU and they will go there because it's so much cheaper. Price is what's keeping me from going to SMU even though I don't want to leave the bay area. I didn't apply to UCSF/SFSU cause I didn't like the way they treated me during my advising session with them. I think you'll get in, but I'm sorry you have to wait! The waiting is so rough! Keep thinking positive thoughts! Good luck!

I've gotta say, PTs and DPT students are some of the nicest and coolest people I've ever met. Not much elitism and snootiness from what I've seen.

UCSF is giving out acceptances now as well as a few other schools, I am betting whoever is on the waitlist will be moving up quicker then you expect! Hope to see you all in the Fall!
 
If you are talking to me, wish I had better news for you, but Samuel Merritt is my top choice as well. Not giving up my spot, I will be pulling for you though! Keep up the faith! Havent looked back at your previous posts, but what is your waitlist number?
 
No, I was replying to akry6. I am waitlist #1 and I am still nervous... just cause hypothetically everyone could accept. Outside of the CSUs, Samuel Merritt is my number one choice too
 
oo sorry, I was #5. My coworker was waitlisted at #30something last year and it moved until she unfortunately got stuck at #1 at the end. You'll definitely get in. I met another girl who had been accepted to SMU this year and when we re-met at the UCSF interview she said she was almost certainly going to decline.
 
Just mailed in my tuition deposit today, so pumped! Anybody else set on Merritt? Have you guys on the waitlist been notified of movement? Good luck to all waiting!

Nope, the email mentioned that the waitlist won't be updated until 3/1. How much was the deposit?
 
Deposit was $350, not bad at all compared to other places I have seen. With all the chatter on these forums I am guessing you will be near the top or hopefully accepted come March 1, Keep fingers crossed man!

Just mailed in my letter of intent saying I won't be attending SMU. Letters/deposits are due on the 1st of March I think so you might hear more soon. I hope my spot goes to you! Good luck!
 
The waitlist should be updated by now (3/1). I wonder if SM will send out an email today for everyone on the waitlist or if you have to send Lizzie an email first. diehrdgiantsfan should get an acceptance letter pretty soon.
 
They will probably start Monday, you have moved up the list a lot already so I am sure you'll get in. Good luck and hang in there with the crazy waiting process!

I emailed Lizzie and she said "There has been no change to the waitlist at this point I anticipate sending an update out to you all with updated positions in two weeks."

I guess they haven't officially updated the waitlist, even though there are people declining admission.
