Hey SDN, I was perusing San Antonio's website the other day and noticed that it said you should be done with all the pre reqs before you apply. What if I'd only be one class away from being done with them when I wanted to apply (next cycle)?

The class in question is stats. What would you do?

That's an eyeroll IMO. I am missing two pre-reqs and am still applying. No advisor has ever said it would hurt me, except at Baylor because I don't have the 30 hours of upper division bio that they tacitly require.

Maybe this will help: I just applied to all TX schools early May and took stats during the first summer semester (after applying). I got an interview from SA before I had that transcript sent (although it was in my planned coursework)

Where is your residence? Texas?

Thanks so much- it does help. I've never heard of that rule before so this gives me hope.

How did stats in the summer go because that's when I'll take it?

Born 'n raised Texan 🙂

@FancyTeeth... I mean, stats in the summer was fine but it wasn't the most interesting class in the world. It isn't too bad, you'll be fine. Good luck!

What 30 hours do they tacitly require?! What have you taken thus far? I'm a Texas resident (now) and although its not my first choice, I'm still applying there (next cycle).

Gracias, SicEm! I'm "eagerly" awaiting this next summer 🙁

It's well known that Baylor "requires" 30 hours of upper division bio (or at least sciences) credits to seriously consider a candidate. Now, that doesn't mean you have to have it, but that's generally what they want to see. How someone is supposed to have this by the time of application is beyond me. I have 0 hours of upper division sciences (I started pre-reqs 13 months ago FWIW, working 30 hrs/wk) but I do have 40 hours of general sciences. I've also talked to Baylor students and they had told me with my stats (and frankly, my race) that I have a good shot despite the lack of UD credits. It's annoying, since they don't explicitly say it anywhere, yet they expect you to do it. It's unrealistic for me (virtually no one from my school fulfills this requirement and thus we have more SA/Houston acceptances than Baylor.

Wow... I'm in the same boat you are. I started my pre reqs when you did, and work 40+ hours a week. If you don't mind my asking, where do you go to school? I will say, my first choice is Houston, 2nd SA, but still, I want o do whatever I can to apply to all 3.

I did my Masters in music at UNT, and am finishing my pre-reqs here as well. Yea, I can't say I've written off Baylor, but their "requirements" put non-biology majors and non-trads at a real disadvantage. They essentially want an extra year of courses from non-trads, which is expensive in so many ways. It isn't physically possible for me to take more that 10-12 upper division bio courses in a semester, so I won't reach their standard. :scared: Anyways, San Antonio is my #1 school and I'm excited that they are less anal and actually care that you're well rounded.

Completely understand. I have a degree in Spanish, and I am literally taking one class at a time. Therefore, I will be applying with slightly above minimum pre reqs. What you say about SA makes me so much more hopeful! I can take an extra year of pre reqs... But every year is like 2 more with application and admission...I don't want to waste more time!
