Hi,
Any one heard anything about the San Antonio program? Working environment? Variety of experience? Program in general?

I have done several anesthsia rotations in SA as a student. Overall, I feel that the program is quite good. I have felt little pressure in the working environment as there are CRNAs and anesthesia techs to help keep things moving. There is a good relationship b/t resident/attending and even surgery/anesthesia. The residents get along very well with each one another and are easy to work with (with the exception of maybe 2 bad apples in 36 total residents). The residents also seem to have plenty of time to read. I also like the call system with 1st call, 2nd call, etc. The didactics on general OR are about 2-3x/wk. There are plenty of difficult cases early on to challenge you. The drawbacks include difficulty with coverage when residents are sick or on maternity leave (although I cannot attribute this entirely to the number of residents and it may happen anywhere). They also tend to have a hard time fulfilling requirements in peds and often have to go elsewhere for their cases. I've talked to a few CA3s who still feel weak in peds. The medical center is nice in that it is outside of downtown. Some people find that there is just little to do in SA. I would have no qualms about staying here if theings turned out that way.

Only 1 IMG (Puerto Rico) in all 4 classes. Also forgot to mention above the board passing rate. No one seems to know or cannot tell as it has not been all that great in the past. However, they have ramped up the didactics.

Actually, puerto rico students are not considered IMGs. However, there is one FMG (India) in the CA3 class who also happens to be one of the two chief residents and is a very nice and brilliant person. Also, there is one attending there who just finished up 2 years ago that is from India. Possible, yes, but tough. I am a USIMG from Texas and went back to do 2 anesthesia rotations there in San Antonio (general and ob).

True, I forgot about the other CA-3. Still, that resident finished her GME in another Texas school and is just doing an anesthesia residency in San Antonio. So at the time that they applied, I wouldn't consider the resident as the same IMG as others just finishing med school.
