SAT I verbal VS. MCAT verbal

MCAT = way harder

For me SAT V = 760 MCAT V = 11

Thanks guys, I took ACT, and never took and studied MCAT verbal before. Damn, is verbal that hard?

I am the opposite
Granted I dont have my scores yet, but on practice test scores and based on how I feel about verbal when I do it, I like MCAT verbal wayyyy better. SAT verbal seems sooo trained, and knowing large vocabulary words doesnt make you more intelligent than someone else (IMO). I see so many people who did great on SAT verbal have a really hard time with the MCAT verbal. Where I didn't do so great on SAT verbal I actually enjoyed working on MCAT verbal. It was pretty straightforward to me. If you can comprehend what you are reading and get the main point of something, you can do well on passages usually. I seemed to have a much easier time at it than my friends who took prep courses for SAT and got amazing scores.

MCAT verbal is way harder....

MCAT verbal is way harder than the "reading comprehension" portion of the SAT I verbal, as well. SAT I is a joke compared to the MCAT.

Ok,
later

If Sat verbal is harder...........what's the point of going through college? lol......might as well let high schoolers go straight into med school lol.......funny:meanie:

I still stand by what I said.
I am sure the SAT verbal is easier persay, if I had taken the courses and studied for even five minutes perhaps I could have gotten a 700+ score too. To bad for me that I didn't even know prep courses existed back then, and wasnt even aware that people really studied for the SAT. So I am sure it comes as a surprise to people when the MCAT verbal requires more pure reading comprehension and skill than compared to SAT verbal which can be trained more so than the MCAT IMO. I am sure SAT verbal is easier to get a high score on, but MCAT verbal is easier to get a high score on if you are good with comprehension.

I agree with NoelJan. SAT = harder and requires more knowledge. MCAT verbal passages are easier to comprehend but the questions are so way off that's y its hard; at least with the SAT, the questions are pertinent.

i hope you are joking about all being equal but nevertheless that 29 ACT is pretty good.

SAT1 Verbal: 720 - 800, MCAT CR: 14s (Only missed 1-2 /60 in all past 10 practice tests from AAMCs to EK101)

I would say SAT1 Verbal is mainly an English comprehension test and MCAT CR is a test for English + Logic Reasoning + Pattern finding + IQ.

To some people, MCAT can be easy and consistent if your logic reasoning is strong and can find patterns by doing practice tests. But to others the situation could be different. MCAT CR is not necessarily a good indicator in one's English abilities. In this sense, I would say these two tests are different.

My other SAT stats, m800, w770, math2 800, physics 800...

SAT V: 750
ACT reading: 36

MCAT V: 12 average on practice tests

I think it's really hard to know which is harder, because they are so different (at least the old SAT I; I have no experience with the new one). It also depends on what kind of knowledge you have. For the SAT, pretty much all you needed to know was a lot of words, because the reading comprehension was a joke. On the MCAT, you could have a very meager vocabulary and still rock verbal if you can read quickly and process what you read very well. What is ultimately important about the two exams is the percentile which you attain; in that sense, the MCAT is harder (I think most people see a percentile lower on the MCAT than on the SAT) because the fellow test-takers are, on average, much smarter.

I haven't taken the MCAT or even looked at MCAT verbal, so I won't comment on the question, but people tend to agree that the logic and critical thinking are key to doing well on verbal. So I really recommend that you just have a constant flow of literature from different sources (books, magazines, newspapers, science journals etc) so that you can become a better critical thinker.

I think any type of Verbal reasoning test pretty much suck....but yeah I must say MCAT verbal is harder.

"SAT=660 in verbal
ACT=29 overall and I think also a 29 in verbal itself
MCAT=10 (verbal score) Q
"

No, I really think these are all about equal.

I agree. I like the questions in MCAT verbal and you don't need to memorize a dictionary to prepare. High scores in MCAT Verbal can be abtained consistently if knowing to do so but you need some luck to gain a 780-800 in SAT Verbal.

SAT Verbal: 730
ACT Reading: 36
MCAT Verbal: 11 Average on practice tests, we'll see how I actually did in october.

I agree that SAT was too much based on random vocab making or breaking you but the MCAT passages are much more tricky than SAT passages and ACT passages which I excelled at.
