SAT Scores?!?!

so who wouldve thought that I'd have to worry about my sat scores right now.. some of my secondaries are asking to put my sat scores. Its optional but is anything really optional? I got a 1350 on my sat (690 math 660 verbal) and a 31 on my mcat (8 in verbal).

What do you guys think about putting the sat scores? I feel as though if its not incredible it may only harm..or maybe im just a worrier

I don't know the exact percentiles, but I imagine a 1350 SAT is comparable to a 31 MCAT (at least within the same realm)... it's not going to bring you down.
 
I've often thought about this before, and I think they might just be looking for something specific. Verbal Reasoning is very important in medical school, and if you have a low VR, they might look to see if you have a low SAT verbal. If there is a pattern, it may affect your application. If you have a high SAT verbal, they would think that you just had a bad test day.

Both of your scores are very good. I think it would hurt your application more not to put your scores.

A 1350 on the SAT is about 10 percentile higher than a 31 on the MCAT.

You have to account for the fact that the pool of people taking the MCAT is a lot more driven than the pool of people taking the SAT.
 
Yeah, I'd imagine that people who actually get to the point of taking the MCAT are mostly in the top 10-20th% for the SAT

Try having taken it in 1992. Could it BE less relevant? I didn't even remember what the score was, tracking it down was a total PITA. Not to mention that since they revamped the test after I took it the scores aren't even comparable to today's applicants.

I got the SAT question from Penn State. Since then I've been wondering how my SAT compares to my MCAT in terms of percentile. Has anyone found a good resource for SAT stats? College board seems to only have info on the new scoring system...
 
Man, I can't even remember what my score is. It was good enough to get into college, isn't that all they need to know?
 
Most schools use it for statistical purposes. Stop worrying. You're 31 is fine.

well i hope it has no weight at this point, cause i got a 980 lol. Theres a big difference between high school level maturity and what i am now to say the least.
 
😡I HATE when ppl ask me for my SAT or ACT scores. I really think that this tests donot show how well u r going to perform in college or med school. I got a 920 on my SAT(620 in math). Right now a dont have amazing stats but i am doing much better than a lot of ppl that I know who got ~1300, I also did good in most of my classes in college. That test showed nothing about my performamce in college.

ps. I left this question blank in the penn secondary
 
I doubt they even look at them...maybe they use them for statistical purposes.
 
ye i was surprised about this too..but i happily put my SAT score down, which was signiifcantly better than my mcats:laugh:
 
My SAT score was embarrassingly low. I am doing a hundred times better on my practice MCAT tests, and I did really well on my GRE's. I can't believe SAT score still matters.

no need to make excuses for your mcat...youve done it in multiple threads.

wow, 300 on verbal!?! I didn't know scores got that low. I would wear that like a badge of honor in med school! Kind of funny, actually.

yeah, no kidding. What were you expecting? A 34 is in the 90something percentile, WTFrog? And with a good GPA too.
 
Dude, just put it down and get on with the secondaries.

You gotta get those Secondaries in as fast as possible without sacrificing quality. SAT scores are the least of your worries.

If you're late in submitting... it won't necessarily matter if your SAT and MCAT scores were great/mediocre/poor, 'cause they might only have a few interview spots left.

Exactly. I would hope that, for us nontrads, the "optional" instruction really can be taken at face value.

Wow I got an 8 in verbal too...and got the same SAT Verbal score (730 in math though).


I wonder how many people score similary on both verbal sections of the MCAT and SAT????
 
I've never taken the SAT, ACT, or any other college entrance test.

I would assume that it truly is "optional." They shouldn't hold it against you if you leave it blank.
 
I'll agree, but if you got a ~1150 or better, I don't see any reason to leave it blank.
 
I've never taken SATs.. that should be fun to explain when secondaries come. :-\
 
I never took the SATs because I knew I was going to start at a community college... will this be an issue???

Yeah, someone told me that u get 200 for filling out your name, so i guess when i took it i was really bad at English. oh well, i guess i havent improved that much judging from my verbal score🙁.
