Someone posted something about SAT scores and it got me thinking. I wonder if there is a correlation at all between good SAT scores and AA on DATs. My hypothesis is that there is no correlation bec. I think DATs is something you can really study for while SATs can be a bit more difficult to prepare for. So here goes. If you guys arent shy about your scores......post both your SAT scores and your DAT AA. I'll go first. (Please no rounding up, an 1150 is an 1150 not 1200).

SAT: 1290
DAT AA: 20

It's hard to say if there's a correlation. I mean, I didn't even study for my SAT. It was almost like I got up one day and said, "oh yeah, SAT's today. Huh." Anyway, I got a 1370 on SAT. But I blame my low score on the (stupid) standardized math of the math section.

HAHAHA its funny that you think a 1370 is a "low" score. Most pple would be very happy with that. But you did not post your DAT!

I figured people would remember the numbers. Everyone throws them around often enough. 😎 Anyway, it's a .22 caliber.

720 verbal
680 math
1400 sat

1290... I guess I did not study during high school...

aa 23

Problem with this is that most of you guys took the sat within the last 7 years.. some of us old geezers took it quite some time ago.. (1993 in my case).. SAT scores went through 2 rounds of inflation i believe .. i know one for sure was in 1995. and then the more recent format changes .... anyway you can roughly add 200 to your pre-1995 score

I studied my butt off for the DAT 3 months this summer: for 12-18 hours a day. For the SAT, I flipped through the pamphlet that they give you when you register for about 30 minutes before i went to bed the night before and got a 1200.. that score back then i think was about the equivalent of a 1400.. enough to get into schools rated Most competitive in US News College guide.

I hope there isn't a correlation! I was waitlisted at every school I applied to for undergrad (except where I went of course). I would become physically ill if that happened applying to d-school.

Anywho, there must be some real interest in this because don't a couple schools, like harvard, ask for SAT scores? Interesting.

Hmm.....so it seems that a lot of the people posting here with 1400s and up hit 23s and up. Maybe there is a correlation. Is there anyone out there with "low" SATs (lets make that number about national avg. say around 1000 or so) that hit above a 20? So far everyone here has pretty solid SAT scores and they also have very solid DAT scores (20 and up).

SAT is a bunch of garbage. West coast takes the ACT and I got a 31 and a 22 on the DAT

Hey armorshell dont take this personally but did you used to smoke pot in high school? Those were always the smartest kids at my school.

HA! ACT... my girlfriend took both and got a 1260 on the SAT but like a 32? 33? on the ACT. Unfortunately, Dartmouth only took the SAT so she was waitlisted...

Silly westerners...

Um no, I must be one of the lucky ones that managed to get smart without smoking! Maybe I accidentally bumped into a pothead and "caught" the smart 😀

WoW
I see a bunch of smart people here. 😎

740 math
590 verbal :barf:
1330

DAT 23/25/24

Man, I don't know if you people are lying or not but you sure do make me feel like a scrub.

SAT 1370
DAT 22

The math scores are definitely highly correlated in my case.
SAT I Math - 800, SAT II Math - 800, GRE Analytical - 800, GRE Quantitative - 800, DAT Math - 30

Wow, that's awesome. I wish I could have done like you. Haha. I've always loved math, and I've always been good at it. That's mostly the reason why I initially picked engineering as my career choice. However, the questions on standardized math tests are more like topics you learn in eighth grade. When you have differential equations and linear algebra floating around in your head, are you even supposed to remember what a triangle looks like? I kid, I kid! 😀

SAT: 1070
DAT: AA 21

ACT: 28
DAT AA: 19

Not as smart as most....🙁

thats what i thought. Lots of smarties on this site. Someone once told me that the avg SAT score of a med school student is about a 1400-1450. I think it is safe to say that over the past few yrs the avg SAT score of a dental student was prob 1200-1300 (although this is prob picking up quickly).

Neither the SAT nor the DAT are particularly hard tests. I have to say, as someone who paranoid freak-out studied for the DAT all summer long, I knew way, way too much and realized while taking the test that I didn't really need to understand concepts as much as I did, only to memorize them. I couldve done that in a month. Oh well, you live and you learn...

when i took the act and sat it was 1 or 2 years after i came to the U.S.
act 16
sat 800 or 900
imagine taking a test in a foreign language knowing only few foreign words.

dat 17AA 18TS 18pat
i know i can score in the 20s if i study more.

SAT: 1370
ACT: 31 ~99th percentile
DAT: 21 ~96th percentile

Either I'm getting dummer, or the competition is getting smarter...

I think your GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT. Just like Tony the Tiger.

It's just the competition. I mean, how many of us were the "top" person in our high school? Then we go to college, and we're in classes with hundreds of other "top" people. Then, some get weeded out. And, some apply to dental school But great scores by the way.

One case that I know of scored 20 on high school ACT (< 50 percentile) and 21AA 23TS on DAT (> 90 percentile) So, in that case, not much correlation.

umm there is no correlation trust me..

with age comes maturity and with maturity comes due diligence and with due diligence comes better scores

I'm just like you. I took SAT for fun since it was free. My score was 900 (300 verbal, lolz, only look at some math problems the night before the exam.) On the DAT, I got 21 on RC and AA is 25. My formula on getting 100% on DAT: 25% brain + 50% work + 15% support (family/friends) + 10% luck 😛 .

Yes, it appears that the math scores are pretty correlated: 730 math SAT; 26 math DAT

Don't know about the verbal though. The passages are more like plug and chug

man, SDN really has a bag full of smart people. Guess it's a good thing for the future of dentistry.

Took the SAT twice!

1050 and then 1160

21AA 22TS

21RC and 16 QR!!!

Never took the SAT but did a 24 of the ACT which i know isnt that hot but on my DAT's which i cared about doing well on i hit 20 and up

Sat: 1290
Act: 31
(GRE): 1200
Dat: 22/22/21

Sat: 1190

Dat: 22/21/18

SAT really doesn't matter. Kids that scored high were motivated in HS to do well, and they did well in college. Kids that did bad didn't care in HS, and they either try hard in college or don't try to get into dent school.

1150 SAT, 26 ACT, 21 TS, 20 AA. 1000% African -American

1530, heh 😛

but i slacked off in college and had to make it up postbacc 🙁

High school is still a blur to me. I did not study at all for the SAT.
I did apply to USF, FIU, FSU, and UF I got in to all but I choose FIU.

SAT 1010

DAT: AA=20, TS=22, PAT=17
I studied for about five weeks.

Correlation? none, different things being tested.

Now, what about DAT and NBDE? I think so.
