I was going to take Trig and Chem 2 at my university this summer and my bill is $2,500. I could go back to my old CC and do these classes for about $500 and I could shadow at the local hospital. Any recommendations? $2,500 is a big hit to the savings account, and I'll be going back to my university this fall anyways. I know this is pretty common thread on SDN...

If those 2 are the only courses you will take at a junior college/community college level - then go for it and save $2000 (plus get hospital experience)

Do well at your university (and MCAT) and it will be a non-issue.

I thought you were taking stats, not trig?

Anyway, I think Adcom's prefer to see university credits, but I think if you can save $2,000 you should do it. What might put your mind at ease is to call the schools you're interested in and chat with an admissions counselor. This will not only give you the insight you're looking for, but will also indicate to the school that you are interested, planning ahead, and will create a very important dialogue.

I had to push stats back until the Fall because I found out that Trig is highly recommended for Physics I.

My CC classes were not looked down on, but I also had great grades in difficult classes at my university to back me up.
Getting shadowing experience is invaluable - it's great for your own personal resolve, it looks great on paper, and it gives you something to write/talk about during apps/interviews.

Even if it's "highly recommended" don't take it. It's a requirement at my college. I didn't take it at all. The only things you need to know about trig are: soh cah toa, and c^2 = a^2 + b^2. No joke.
