HAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAH, I've been kind of pissed the whole freaking day due to the stupid, ignorant, and byased faculty in the clinic floor and this have gave a good laugh.

Right now you don't regret nothing; same position we ALL where, look at us now!! We hate USC so wholeheartedly.

SC will kick YOUR Ass, just wait.

i just started USCSD too....and so far i have a great dislike for it...and for pbl too....i looked into transferring today but unfortunately ucla and ucsf dont accept transfers so i guess im stuck here. i cant drop out and reapply either cus ill be (at the very least ) 15k in the hole...ouch...so i guess im here to stay...hopefully ill be done in 4 years 🙁

btw: my only other option for school was nyu...so it was a "pick your poison" situation

If I were you calichick I'll totally opt for nyu; their program just recruited the dean from UCSF and that totally changes the perspective on the school. You don't see people complaining about NYU as they do about SC. At least they know they'll go through hell for 4 years and that's it.
Our future here at SC is uncertain; it's a coin toss whether you'll get out of here in 4 years or 5....it's totally uncertain.
In my opinion your picking the russian roulette school.

I read earlier that the class of '07 had an 18% on-time graduation rate. How many '07ers are still there now? Are the majority fairly close to fulfilling there requirements? Hopefully the situation improves for your class.

That's bc you haven't been around SDN long enough. NYU regularly gets a beat down around here, but USC is currently in the limelight. 😎

I don’t think one person (the new NYU dean) can really make a huge change in a short period of time. Since the cost of living in NY is a lot higher, you would have to borrow a lot more money to go to NYU.

I know, before the PBL time, a few seniors had to stay behind because of strict clinical requirements, failing ridiculous competency exams, lack of dental chairs, and patient shortage. Has it been the same with the new PBL system?

Calichick, if you are uncertain about whether you will graduate in 4 years, you should re-apply to programs that give you better chance of finishing the training in 4 years (ie Loma Linda, UCLA, UCSF). I know a guy who dropped out of Harvard (Harvard used to be a 5 year program) after a few months in that program, reapplied and got accepted to our dental school.

I agree with my bruin friend; man! I remember those days where I would spill blood for USC; but that was during my first 2 semester where I new nothing about the nightmares in the clinic. Now, after 2 years, I've come to realize what a big mistake I made in coming to USC Dental. Sometimes I feel the faculty and the dean want to keep us here since we do free labor and pay tuition at the same time. If you are a girl and hot you definitely have an advantage over everybody else since the faculty here are very attracted to the hotties. Gosh, this school sucks so much.

Calichick, you maybe 15K in the hole, but think about it....if you happen not to graduate on time you might have to pay even more that on tuition and IMS charges for staying late. So loosing that money and applying next semester or year after to get into a decent program that will graduate it you on time is far better than staying in this hell.

I have no choice, I'm class of 09 and must live through this hell, you still have some more room to work with.

Good luck to you.

I'm a D1 at Nyu, and so far, I think it's great. The new dean from SF gave a very encouraging and inspirational speech at the white coat ceremony about what his vision is for nyu. And contrary to what I thought before coming here, their program has made a huge emphasis on caring about each and every student. The faculty seems really good thus far; they all speak proper english and know what they're talking about. Facilities are top notch, upper classmen say requirements arent a problem in clinics, and all the "ethnic" clubs have good notes thus far.

As for price...I believe SC's tuition is more expensive, but cost of living in ny is higher, so I dunno which is truly more expensive. I took out about 90k, and that covers everything. Also, you can't have a car here.

I think arizona accepts transfers. Sounds like a big risk dropping out to reapply in order to try and get in somewhere better. I don't think you'd be very successful. Tough it out. You'll get your DDS.

they changed the system again.. we are so F-ed.

Actually, every dental school in the country loses money on undergrads in clinic. It would be better to get rid of you than keep you. Now if they can get you to become a resident, then you'd be making money for them!

There are still about 20 people from class of 2007. I used to hate school but now I am very indifferent about the whole SC. I passed my August WREB and waiting for my license. So relaxing. I still talk to friends who are still at school. They hate school so much and I feel their pain.

They changed the scheduling system starting Monday (yesterday). Regrettably I have to report that I am REALLY pessimistic about the new system so far. Basically, we have to depend on 2-3 "treatment coordinators" to book all our appointments which sucks major ass. To make matters worse, there are no more walk-ins allowed!?😡 so chairs will go empty left and right. I just dont understand how this will solve anything. I am SOOO frustrated right now.

All we needed was remote access to Axium and a penalty for not canceling chairs. We needed a more dynamic and accessible scheduling system, instead we got ZERO access. wow

I hear you man, I have 5 patients that need treatment plan and data collection and I can freaking get them a chair; all I was given was a 2nd spot on the wait list for Friday and that's it...I am so desperate man; totally hate this system and this school

Just to update.

The school is back to having students schedule for everything except perio, tx planning, and data collection. The proposed system wasn't working and I'm glad the policy makers swallowed their pride and cut their loses before too much time was lost. Clearly the school doesn't have the manpower to handle 400 appointment requests per day. unfortunately, there are still no walk-ins allowed.
