i just started USCSD too....and so far i have a great dislike for it...and for pbl too....i looked into transferring today but unfortunately ucla and ucsf dont accept transfers so i guess im stuck here. i cant drop out and reapply either cus ill be (at the very least ) 15k in the hole...ouch...so i guess im here to stay...hopefully ill be done in 4 years 🙁
btw: my only other option for school was nyu...so it was a "pick your poison" situation
Our future here at SC is uncertain; it's a coin toss whether you'll get out of here in 4 years or 5....it's totally uncertain.
In my opinion your picking the russian roulette school.
If I were you calichick I'll totally opt for nyu; their program just recruited the dean from UCSF and that totally changes the perspective on the school. You don't see people complaining about NYU as they do about SC. At least they know they'll go through hell for 4 years and that's it.

I dont think one person (the new NYU dean) can really make a huge change in a short period of time. Since the cost of living in NY is a lot higher, you would have to borrow a lot more money to go to NYU.
I know, before the PBL time, a few seniors had to stay behind because of strict clinical requirements, failing ridiculous competency exams, lack of dental chairs, and patient shortage. Has it been the same with the new PBL system?
Calichick, if you are uncertain about whether you will graduate in 4 years, you should re-apply to programs that give you better chance of finishing the training in 4 years (ie Loma Linda, UCLA, UCSF). I know a guy who dropped out of Harvard (Harvard used to be a 5 year program) after a few months in that program, reapplied and got accepted to our dental school.

Sometimes I feel the faculty and the dean want to keep us here since we do free labor and pay tuition at the same time.
They changed the scheduling system starting Monday (yesterday). Regrettably I have to report that I am REALLY pessimistic about the new system so far. Basically, we have to depend on 2-3 "treatment coordinators" to book all our appointments which sucks major ass. To make matters worse, there are no more walk-ins allowed!?😡 so chairs will go empty left and right. I just dont understand how this will solve anything. I am SOOO frustrated right now.
All we needed was remote access to Axium and a penalty for not canceling chairs. We needed a more dynamic and accessible scheduling system, instead we got ZERO access. wow
