Not yet, but I am starting this weekend.

Right on. We're gonna be a great team.🙄

I know some people are totally sweatin it though. This girl that was in my micro class was wiggin out about learnin em all.

I have decided to go camping this weekend so I will start studying the drugs when I get back on Sunday hehe. I have a feeling this school year will be something to remember.

I have learned about 35 of them.....do they really expect us to know all the doses, etc? That is such a pain -- I'm getting so confused with all the numbers! 😡

No Dr. Baron only expects u to know the ranges roughly for the strength. The dosing as long as it makes sense and is in the ball park, u will get it right or the majority of the points. For example, make sure u know xalantan is a eye dropper, so something like one drop applied to affected eye one to bid daily. and not something like 1 tablet. Make sure u put down something even if it is a guess, he doesn't take points off.
By the way does anybody know the stats of the students for the incoming year? I can't find it at the usc website.

What is the name of the pharmacy class where these drugs are taught?

Actually, all of us at one time or another will get the pleasure of memorizing the drugs.

BTW, I have a strong feeling that your USC prof will be more exacting. For example, Xalatan is a PG. The dose is specifically 1 gtt ou qhs or Servent Diskus 1 inh bid only. Certain drugs have ranges, but you picked a drug that has an exacting dosage. Also, a couple of drugs don't really have regimens but have toxic doses (All Vicodin, Lortab, and Norco have an NTE dose of 4 g APAP). Make sure you know those doses, if not for class, to not look stupid in practice.

I agree with lord, but my point is if drug X has a strength like 20,25,30,35,40 mg then don't memorize each of it, memorize the more common strength or give a range that makes sense, 20-30 or 20-35 mg. He his not that picky, although his assistant, if she was the one grading it, is more picky. But both of them don't expect u to know every detail of it by the first year, only after 4 years. But lord is right, if there is a drug that is specific or has only one strength, then u have to memorize it like that. He gives point here and there. Just try to put down something that makes sense because some people put down xalantan as a tablet so he can't even give any points at all for those people last year. Just worry about pharmacuetics, that was the hard class first semister of first year.
For creams and lotions, base upon work, most doctors do not write the standard dosing on that. Because i thought zovirax ointment was apply every 3 to 6 hours or something.
One doctor wrote apply every 1 to 2 hours as needed. But my boss thought it was okay. For any register pharmacist, isn't that a lot?

you guys, dr. baron is only looking for the general dosing range. he's not going to get all anal. if the dosing is complicated, there's a good chance it won't even show up on the quiz. he has his secretary or someone grade it so he likes to keep the key simple. if you are willing to learn everything in detail now, great. but what i'm saying is don't stress. i totally procrastinated but was able to memorize enough for an A in just two or three nights before the quiz. everyone ends up stressing but it can be done in just a couple of nights.

it's easier if you categorize the drugs by class first. for example, you will see lots of the antibiotics have similar dosing. so it helps to categorize the drugs first, then memorize them that way. you will see quite a few similarities so then you can just focus on memorizing the differences.

i believe the drug memorization is for the externship class, right? that's how it was for us. this quiz is a small portion of your grade, i think. dr. baron likes lots of participation in group discussion. and also kiss up to your externship preceptor and you'll do just fine in this class.

listen to gdk420 regarding the drug quiz...he/she is so right.

and ya pharmaceutics is the toughie during level 1...it's all about test packet. test packet will help so much in addition to really understanding dr. haworth's notes. it's a really good class and you will learn lots. if you pay attention to haworth's lectures, light bulbs will go on in your head.

that Baron guy rocks!! He gave his home phone # to the whole class for g@d's sakes.

an upper classmate said she will send information for the drugs to everyone that wants it. I, like many other, put myself on the list. Is this considered as "networking"? If it is, then i have made my first network.

Also, one of my classmates said he has made an agreement with 24 hr fitness in Alhambra for the rate of only 15$ per month and no registration fee. I also put myself on this list.

If anyone is interested in the drugs information or the 24 hr fitness deal, let me know. Lets "NETWORK".
