I am a undergrad in tx and will be in progress of applying to SCCO and the opt. school in Houston, TX. I dream school is SCCO all the way! I know its a private institution, but i was wondering if anyone know the percentages of out-of-state students SCCO admits? I really want to get into this school. I will be completing my B.S in biology a semester earlier than I'm suppose to. I will be applying for FALL 2008. I have been an optometric tech for almost a year now, my gpa is around 3.4-3.5. I will be taking the OAT soon in april 07.
I am very determined to get into the school, even though I know that I have to pull ridiculous amounts of loans. I have been doing a number of volunteer work non realated to optometry as well. Do I have a chance??
Even if I I don't I'm still going to apply. Also should I apply to more backup schools, even if I just want to go to this school?

THANKS SO MUCH!!

it would depend a lot on your OAT scores. 300+ in ts, aa, and rc, in case u didnt know..but besides that, i think you're good to go if you interview well too =)

thanks for the reply. I'm just nervous, as I'm sure everyone else is, but determined at the same time. Transitioning from TX to CA is going to be vey different.

You're in a great position, plus you've got a lot of time ahead of you to get even more prepared. I applied to 5 schools even though I have the one school I REALLY want to get in to. Good luck!

Im a student at SCCO and I am sure if you write good essays and do well on your OAT you will have a good shot. Applying early is a good idea but I wouldnt be too concerned with being an out of state student. Be prepared to answer why you dont want to go to UHCO, they like to take students who are from WHICHE states(or states who dont have optometry schools), they take less from places that do have them. However, that also has a lot to do with the fact that not a whole lot of people apply from those states 🙂

Also, with regards to the transisition, i came here from the most Easterly province in Canada and I absolutely love it here!

Goodluck!! and dont be nervous 🙂

wow! thanks for the fresh advice. You've given me more hope than I already had. I'll look into that WICHE program that you had mentioned. Good Luck with your admissions as well!!!
