Hey everyone, i'm not sure if this thread currently exists yet but id love it if u can help me out and give me your two cents =) thanks!

Hey,
I cant tell you alot about SUNY but I did interview there and I really think there are a lot of good things about both SCCO and SUNY.
Of course, i am partial to SCCO. One thing that i really saw that was different at SCCO was the campus feel that the school has. All the buildings are separate and the clinic is separate as well. At SUNY everything is in one building and I think that i would feel cramped and sick of the building after a while.
Also, i know it is hard to find affordable housing close to the optometry School in Manhattan. While housing is pricing in California you can find apts really close to the school.
SCCO has a really great curriculum too, its really building and geared toward a really clinical basis for teaching (which means we will do really well on the new National Boards)
If you have some more specific questions just send me a private msg.
Goodluck

I'm not starting any kind of war.. but that's a pretty bold statement to make at this stage when there's really no proof of how exactly the new boards will be.

I'm sure you will be prepared for the boards at any school you go to, as long as you put in the effort to study for them. In my opinion board scores are probably not the best judge of the school, especially since they are changing.

I suggest you take the initiative and visit both schools. You need to experience both schools for yourself, first-hand. Take a tour, speak with admissions, and current students, explore their surrounding areas, etc.

Both schools are very different and have different things to offer you. An easy first step is to explore their websites and descriptions of curriculum, clinic, etc.

Like you, I had inquired about schools from others, but it wasn't until I visited the schools myself, that I could truly see what they were about. Every person will have a unique perspective about each school, because there are just too many factors that come into play.

So definitely go and visit both schools, and then go from there 🙂

I just wanted to add...

I realize that it's possible you may have already visited both schools and are still unable to decide. So I'd suggest making a list of factors that are really important to you, in order of importance, and then compare those between the schools. Not sure if that would help you but you can try it 🙂

Personally, I chose SCCO, so maybe I'll see you in August 😉

Ive lived in both places and there is no comparing nyc with fullerton. All the fun things scco talks about? prepare to drive (aka designated driver is not going to have as much fun). One is arguably the greatest city in the world while the other is a suburb. It depends on your preference on where you want to spend the next four years of your life.

academically who knows, what exactly is "clincial focused" anyways. Every school says they have the best clincial focus. That is just a bunch of BS. Since when does a school not focus thier curriculum on preparing thier students for clinic? Its just something that sounds good but has really no meaning whatsover.

Assuming that you are going to study hard and pass the boards, it doesnt matter what the pass rate is. It comes down to location.
