Hi,

I'm currently on the waitlist for SCCO. I've looked through some of the recent posts and seems like some people are turning down their seats from SCCO. Anybody on the waitlist hear back from SCCO yet?

Thanks.

I was placed on alternate list last year. You won't hear back until the end of May (when they get majority of the full non-refundable deposits). Then they will tell you which quartile you are on the alternate list and your chances of making it through.

Good luck!

Yes, you will hear back at end of May if you are near the bottom of the waitlist. But if you are near the top, you may hear back sooner if one or two students selectively choose to turn down their seats. The problem is many students wait til the last moment to turn down their seats or they accept at another school and don't bother to tell other schools to go ahead and give their seat up.

If you are near the top, then you may hear earlier. You enter the alternate list based on your interview score. If you scored low, you may be on it forever as others enter the list above you. If you scored well, then you have a very good chance since many students (almost half) of the original seats will choose schools elsewhere for numerous reasons. Many will choose schools with lower standards for many other reasons so you still have a lot of luck of getting in. Think about it, they accept about 160 to net a class of 100. That means 60 students choose elsewhere.

Also, iVision, what was your ultimate result?

I was going through some issues last year and my mind wasn't completely focused on the interview. I didn't make it through the alternate list last year but I did do an interview feedback with Dr. Munroe who told me what I should work on to improve my interviewing skills. I made an effort to go out to application presentations and keep in touch with faculty. This year, I interviewed on the first interview date and was accepted 3 days later! To those of you on SCCO alternate list and it's your first choice school, I would highly recommend reapplying because there is a high reapplicant success rate the 2nd time around. I was accepted into an optometry school last year, but didn't want to go to that school. I opted to defer my acceptance at that school and reapply to SCCO instead.

For those of you who heard back from SCCO after the interview (both accepted and waitlisted), did they contact you by phone, email or by letter? I had my interview last week and I have yet to hear back from them..

They usually send by email first and then you get the hardcopy in the mail.

I just got my email for alternative list. Not sure where I am on the list. I'm not sure if they are willing to give out that information. Has anyone tried?

By email, then by mail. I had my interview on a Saturday and was notified the following Monday. Usually they are very fast at responding.

Your status on waitlist will change throughout the season since it's based on interview score so they won't tell you until interviews are all done with

I got placed on the Alternate List as well. I think anyone interviewing after late February are automatically placed on the list because the school gave out the maximum amount of acceptance letters. I heard the interviews are held until late April and depending on your interview score, you'll see if you have a chance or not by May.

So the waiting continues.. ugh.

Has anyone tried calling to find out where they are on the waitlist? I've been encouraged to call by the doctor I volunteer for, as well as someone I know who was on the waitlist last year because the class was full when she interviewed. Last time I tried calling, Dr. Munroe didn't accept my call and just had Betty tell me the best way to be in touch with Dr. M was by email. I wanted more details to my admission but Dr. M just sent me another word doc on being waitlisted which I mentioned I already read when she sent it to me a month ago. She obviously didn't read my email or else she wouldn't have missed the part where I mentioned I already got a copy of that and I read it already. None of my questions in the emails were answered...

I wouldn't recommend calling them. The application season is very busy for them and having someone constantly calling and checking in might not be such a good idea. Like I said, they will not tell you where you are on the alt list until all the interviews are conducted so please be patient!
