So I'm registering for winter quarter classes right now and I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to take all the classes I need before the mcat..

I hear the time to take the mcat is spring of junior year right before applying.. Right now I'm only taking bio so that means next year I'll have to take physics and chem. Then for junior year I should be starting ochem and probably biochem right?

Does that leave me in shape for taking the mcat? The problem is that this quarter it doesn't look like I'm going to be taking more than 15 units so I'm worried I'm going to have to start cramming everything else in later.. All the classes that would put me at 17-18 units all require prereqs that I don't have and I'm having huge time conflicts for my classes.

are you able to take summer courses?

did you take any AP Sciences in HS?

Nope, only AP history and they give me elective credit for that. Basically useless.

I might be able to take some of my liberal arts requirements over the summer to free up classes during the year so I'm gonna talk to my adviser about that.

why not gen chem or physics during the summer-it may allow you to take all the classes before MCAT more easily

It's way too expensive for me to take those classes at my university but I thought it didn't look good to have prereq sciences at a cc?

Also are the classes I listed pretty much the basic ones I need to do well on the mcat? I've seen physiology, genetics and so on recommended but its beyond me how you could get all those done in 2.5 years. I'm a science major too, I'm wondering how many units a quarter a nonsci major takes to apply in 3 years. Impossible?

i don't think one class at a CC will kill ya if you are up for it (genchem). There is always the chance to take an upper level inorganic chem at your home institution in the late junior or senior yr...I don't really know, I took my MCAT after soph yr so perhaps i'm not the greatest person to ask :/...sorry!

What classes did you have before you took it/did you feel prepared with those classes?

why don't you go talk to your advisor or a career advisor? They've had 1000s of premeds come through before and I'm sure that somewhere there is a "what you should take when" list with the pre-med track all laid out for you.

Here's the thing though. I have one of those sheets and everything but the problem is I can't take the classes I'm "supposed" to be taking because of time conflicts on the classes I need. That means I'll be taking a lower unit count right now which means I'll be taking a higher one later on, which is why I'm worried about not getting all my sciences done before the mcat.

I'm just trying to figure out which classes I really need before the mcat so I can work on making sure I take those. My regular adviser told me I don't need any classes for the mcat and that I'm "just supposed to take it" so I was like "yeah...." Hopefully the premed adviser will know something.

The problem is if you screw up scheduling one class it could set you back a year in applications, which in my case is a $30k+ mistake...with $0 coming from financial aid.

Yeah.

uhhhh not really unless you are way the f behind already. If it comes down to it you take a summer class. Go talk to your pre-med adviser. No matter what, all the advice you get on here is going to be mostly guessing because none of us know about your school or your specific situation. I'm assuming you aren't the only pre-med on campus. Find some older pre-meds via clubs or w.e and ask them for advice if for some reason your pre-med adviser is worthless.

I agree with the above-I am not hte best person to ask for this, since I never took gen chem in college (5 on AP exam), took Orgo/Bio freshman year so I guess this is a different situation...go to your advisor and good luck!
