So surgery and IM are the two most important rotations for me (as it is for most it seems). We get to rank rotations in order of priority for scheduling them a certain period. Essentially, only your first choice is really taken into account.

If I'm interested in surgery is it important for me to guarantee that I do my surgery rotation earlier in the year? Does it matter if I risk having my surgery rotation be at the very end of third year?

I know in the end it won't really matter but might as well make things logical.

I did surgery near the end of M3, didn't know I was interested until I tried it, and got everything together to apply on time. It was a little more work to get letters, redo my M4 schedule to fit Sub-Is, etc, but very doable. I wouldn't sweat it much.
